Toby's crash was alarming to watch. Apparently he has chipped two vertebrae so I suspect that will have him out of action for a while. Would it have happened if minders had been allowed in the section? Opinions?

In this long and stoney section, it would have maybe needed more than one minder or none. Difficult to estimate, but from what I have seen it was not the most difficult/dangerous part of the section. Would be interesting to hear the opinion of Toby and other riders.

Toni bou has won every indoor and outdoor title since 2007, that’s 12 years of complete domination and I just can’t see an end to it any time soon !,busto has faded since leaving Honda and the top 4 riders in nearly every trial gp are the old guard Fuji/raga/fajardo and bou , what’s people’s opinion on why new riders arn’t coming through ? I tipped miquel gelabert and Benoit vincas for great things this year but they are both having shockers and oriol noguera has been knocking on the door of the top ten for a few years but he’s given up and gone home

Watching Jaime Busto on his new GasGas in the last two races, I would estimate, that this year could be a difficult one for Toni.

The dealer informed me that 2 priming kicks load the fuel into the fuel injection system. This is necessary as there is no fuel shutoff. The third kick with 1/4 throttle and it should always start. [...]

    Thank you very much. 👍

This means, that the first 2 Kicks are without any throttle?

Three kicks to start from cold is normal. Engage the kickstart with the throttle closed and prime it with a soft push through the stroke, second kick engage top of stroke again and push through with some throttle on. It will go on the third kick with a swift kick from the top and approx. quarter throttle kept on as you kick through, it needs throttle to start don't roll it off.

I need 12 to 15 Kicks to get the cold engine started. The throttle is on while kicking and I close throttle between Kicks. As soon as the bike is running, I am also warmed up. 😉

Any suggestions are very much appreciated.

  5. I want to exchange the stock spring of the rear shock against a stiffer one. After looking into the spare parts book and reviewing the assembly directly at the bike, the plan would be:

    - Loosen both screws DIN 912 M10x80 holding the dog bones

    - Remove the rear screw of them completely and swivel the dog bones in order to be able to loose and remove the screw DIN 7984 M10x40 that fixes the lower end of the rear shock

    - Remove the upper screw and the rear shock

Does this make sense or do other parts need to be disassembled first in the area of the lower end of the rear shock?

    Thanks, Canario.

My local Vertigo dealer has a 2019 Vertigo DL12 Dougie Replica 300cc for sale.

Half year old, very little time on it. So basically it is like new.

Is it that much better than a standard Vertigo or just a marketing thing (limited edition - 50 made worldwide / other color decals / titanium silencer)?

    I currently ride a 2017 Montesa 300RR, i might consider the Vertigo.

    Any help is appreciated.

    Greetz Erik

    Hi Erik,

do you remember the number of the DL12?

If we talk about the same bike, then it has a new owner now. ?

This GET system can not be retro fitted to pre 2018 bikes.

It's a relatively easy install and works very well. For anyone wanting a closer look the GET App is a free download from the ITunes Store and other places, (search WiGET) and there is a demo mode and manual available within the app, so you can tool around on a "virtual" bike to see how it works.

It offers diagnostics, hour meter, tuning and a bunch of other stuff. We have only had the units for a couple of weeks, but it seems clear and simple. The Fuel and ignition tuning has parameters both + and - so in theory you can't lean it out to detonation levels, or do anything stupid.

I have a 2019 Vertigo. After installing the GET-System what would I see regarding the operating hours?

    - The hours since installation of the GET-System

    - The total hours of operation of the engine

    Thanks

    Still, too many colors...

Other than that, I'm sure it will be a wonderful riding machine...

These are exactly my thoughts about the new R2. I wanted to buy one and waited with impatience, but this graphical design is definitively a "nogo".

Such a beautiful graphical design! I would immediately buy one, if they were still available.

I don't know what anyone could possibly find objectionable about what the pros on 2t bikes do to race prep their bikes: they generally run high comp heads, which you can all go buy if you want. They all tend to run a Trun float bowl, which if you really wanted you could track down, but since most of you won't spend a lot of time on the back wheel, there's probably not much point. You can go buy a Reiger hydrostop shock, or even buy a bike that comes with one (TRS Gold). You can also go buy the top level Tech forks they almost all run.

Other than that... what do you think they're doing to their bikes other than ADDING weight in the form of heavier axles to meet FIM weight requirements?

The bikes they run aren't one-offs by any stretch.

I absolutely agree, that the stock bikes are already on a top level. Further assuming it is 98% up to the driver whether or not he can make the 2.50 meter step, we are talking about the last 2%, which can make the difference.

In this regard I think about the usual measures for the two-stroke engine:

    • Modifying the intake diaphragm
    • Timing (inlet/outlet)
    • Treatment of overflow channels and outlet
    • Machining of crankshaft and piston
    • Fine adjustment of the exhaust (cone)
    • Extensive testing and fine tuning

"Easy" to do for the top teams, difficult for small teams.

Vertigo is different, nothing on that bike does anything better than the other brands. TRS is the one that has made the most progress. A better bike, and the numbers sold worldwide proves it.

Vertigo has fuel injection and a central tank.

From what I have seen in regard to engine and gearbox, a TRS is a GasGas with better build quality. But do you see a technical progress from 2015 to today?

In theory that would be a great idea. But would it limit progress in next years designs. [...]

Looking back on to the designs of most manufacturers (TRS, Beta, GasGas) over the past years, I do not see so much progress at all. The technique of most components is decades old, but with some tuning you can get out some additional percentage points. But these modifications are difficult to realize by small teams.

The biggest progress came from Vertigo and they did this "from scratch".

Maybe the stock bike, but bring rear shock, carb and CDI box?

I would prefer to stick with the stock bike with stock components.

On the other hand side: Whether or not a rider makes it to the top depends more on the support and willingness to travel of the parents than on the bike.

Without proper regulation, any sport becomes a runaway train, with less and less teams and riders able to compete at the top level. Many sports, including F1 have introduced numerous restrictions over the years to hold it back and make it possible for the small teams to compete and its still a 1 horse race! Trials has had none for the last 50 years, its no wonder its become elitist. [...]

I agree. It should be ensured that the bikes absolutely correspond to the series standard in the core areas (engine, transmission, Carburettor, Injection system, front- and rear suspension). For training they can use what they want, but during the GP they should use their Series bikes, observed and transported by FIM.

When national champions cant compete at the top level there is something fundamentally wrong

I'm big fan of Pat Smage. He could compete in the top level but he preferred to stay in the USA and not to move to Spain and train with the top guys (what is kind of necessary).
