  1. I just bought a 2005 4RT which is great. Yesterday I went to the local Honda/Yamaha/Husaberg/Beta shop to get a part for my vintage 74 TY250 and noticed a 4RT sitting in the service department. The service manager said that the fuel pump was bad and wondered if I knew where to get one. Honda/Montesa are doing a poor job of supplying parts here in the states. I have searched the forums and and the internet and have not found a reasonable "walk into the auto parts store" replacement for the 4RT fuel pump. I would like to see this bike fixed for a reasonable cost as trials riding mates are hard to come by in South West Colorado. Has anyone tried the H and D Racing light weight pump? http://handdracing.com/page2.htm

    Thanks in advance

  2. Just got a 2005 4RT and compared to either my 03 Scorpa SY250R or my 04 Beta Rev3 the fan seems to run a lot more of the time. Is this normal? Are there any problems with the water pump impeller wearing out?

The air temperature while riding was about 60 F or 15 C

    Thanks

  3. That sound is often an issue with the crank. Not a great sound, say if the throttle is jammed open and the bike has revved its bits off the crank separates. Some Birkett fettled bikes had the motors split and cranks tac welded to stop this. I hope im wrong..

This happened to my 03. Sent it to back to the importer and he fixed it. I did't have bar ends installed and the throttle was wide open and stuck in the mud. I tried to stop the engine with the kill switch. Just as it was almost stopped I slipped down the hill, it backfired and twisted the crank. Take off the ignition cover and check the run out of the flywheel.

  4. You forgot about the cows urine making it's way into the water table!

I do so hate those plastic bags in a way! The friin thinings even wind up in the trees, blown down the street !

There is a Walma near w where I work with a 20 or so acre field next to it.

The field looks like a cotton field covered in old bags that have blown off the lot during the winter! Pitiful! They ought to have to go clean it!

    Oh My God,

Dinosaur p*** killed the dinosaurs. Now we know.

Got to agree with you about the plastic bags. You ought to see what gets stuck in the trees when Greens Bayou (Rio Bravo Motorcycle Park) floods in Houston

  5. I bought a gallon of tire installation lube. It is slick as snot and worked very well to install the rim strip and tires as well. You might run by a tire shop and see if they will give or sell you a little bit. I figure the gallon I bought will last me for over a century.

  6. I have an M2000 for my Scorpa and bought one for my sons Sherco. The screen for the Sherco was a loose fit and when he ran the bike the screen popped out never to be seen again. I looked up the M2000 on the forest service web site and found out that the J.G. Minter and Sons firm in California manufactured it. I tried calling them but the number was disconnected. That was two years ago. I tried a few weeks ago to no avail. I called Ryan and he said that the conpany did not sell replacement screans. Ryan asked me to send the M2000 back to him and he would see what he could do. I never got around to doing it. You need a special flux to solder SS. Have done it but it is a bitch. You need to have the gas ratio just right. Oxydizing=Carborizing who knows. You might try spotwelding the screen.

  7. Absolutely!

And just think, you get to watch Copey and me hassle each other endlessly at no extra cost!

Should be a good turnout and we don't expect any tornadoes..........

    Jon

    Jon,

Thanks for the invite. It snowed 8-10" on Sunday and we had to cancel the trials. Looks like I will have to stay here and see if I hear about a twister caused by you and cope talking past each other.

  8. For most of you out there the weekend should be dry and warm. Get out there and ride!

Remeber look ahead, knees out, breathe, and don't touch the ground.

    --Biff

Warm and dry? Yesterday at the fun trials it was 34 deg F with snow falling. Today the weather for the season opener it is 31 deg F and we have 4" of snow at my house and likely more up on the mountain where the trials will be held.

Of course they say "if you don't like the weather in Wyoming wait ten minutes"

  9. I have been trying to come up with a simple cost effective, reusable way of marking section and course.

The material is corrugated plastic sign sheet and two foot ceiling hanging wire, price per sheet of plastic

Is $16 for an 8ft x 4ft sheet and the wires are $9 per 100 bundle, cost in material per marker is app 20 cents each.

Sheets and colors can be changed, I used what I had around.

Which would you choose of the samples posted ?.

Sample one delta with stick on class labels.

    Ishy,

That looks like a great idea, but what is that granular brown stuff the wires are sticking in? Seems to me most of our sections are on solid rock. We use Tough as Nails adhesive to bond the markers to the rock. We do try to match the colour of the rock so it is not too obvious when the marker is removed.

  10. Same thing happened to me after putting up that snippit on the Beta, it is on my posterior, cannot get rid of it, may have to have it lanced!

    COPE,

Might that not be a boil?

I hear that down South Texas way they have crawfish and shrimp boils.

How do you North Texans get boils?

    Cheers,

    PS

It is snowing today in Wyoming. I do miss the BBQ brisquit, ribs, and the seafood. We are having the first trials of the season on April 25th. Is it against FIM rules to attach snow shoes to your trials bike?

  11. The company that I work for had it's best year ever last year. I got a great bonus. Plenty enough to buy a new trials bike. At the same time they gave out the bonus they mentioned that there would be no pay raises in 2009. I would love to buy a new bike but I am afraid that I may not have a job after October. I have put the money in the bank and will wait until next year to see if I can still afford a new bike. The 03 scorpa will get new tires and a few new bits and pieces. A new Gas Gas or Beta will just have to wait. I hope these companies are still in business when I can afford a new bike.

    Best luck to all.

  12. My 03 SY-250 has been fed with Motul 600 or 800 full synthetic at 80:1 with nary a problem since new.

Unless you use smoke as a weapon or for subterfuge to baffel the observer every one in the que will appreciate you using 80:1

    Cheers

  13. Well, learn something new everyday, After a little searching it appears the common belief is that niggard and therefore niggardly are possibly of Scandinavian origin and not associated with the dreadful N-word of Latin origin.

I suspect DFWilson may have known this, but chose to use that particular word instead of "miserly" or "stingy" due to its closeness in sounding like the dreaded N-word and the color of our current president.

    Thank you.

How do you know this for sure?

You have seen the actual DVDs given to Brown?

You have been given an official press report from Obama or Brown to the properties of said DVDs?

Fine, I get the point that you feel the gift was "cheap and non-memorable" but my point is if you are going to complain. get the facts straight as to what the gift was.

OH yea, Who cares about the gifts????? did they get any work done?

What was decided, implemented or instituted that will fix this global economic crisis thingy?

I want to afford to go riding again.

    Zippy,

I heard about the gift fiasco on the news. The reason that the gift was important is that UK is a trusted friend and ally. Obama treated the relationship as though the UK was the dirtbag republic of Lower East Fluvianastan.

I certainly hope that neither Brown or Obama got anything done or are able to get anything done in the future. The UK is mired in socialism and we don't need to head any further that direction.

On another front; it won't be long until Obama and his enviro buddies outlaw all 2T bikes and then make it a felony to make a tire print in the dirt. Enjoy your trials bike while you still can.

    Cheers
