  1. Yes, I was surprised how quick they ran out on Sunday. We had a whole day planned but called it the day at around 13:30 after starting riding at 10am. We got around 50mins out of the lead acid packs and around 2hrs out of the lipo's. Also the first time we ran the lipo's down enough to activate the low voltage alarms. It was great to see the whole system function exactly how it should. I don't know if using hand warmers around and on top of the pack would help extend the battery life on really cold days (http://compare.ebay.co.uk/like/270912630057?var=lv&ltyp=AllFixedPriceItemTypes&var=sbar&cbt=y) but I do know that would be bloody expensive!
  2. It seems the cold weather is affecting the batteries by not giving as much runtime as we would like so I have ordered another bunch of packs to make up another battery for the Oset 20. 6 x 4S1P 8000mAh packs (http://www.hobbyking...idproduct=16226) and 6 x low voltage alarms (http://www.hobbyking...idproduct=18987) Watch this space for pics!
  3. I thought I'd start a thread to show some of the mods we have done to our Oset 20. Maybe other people can do the same and share any little tips to make it even better. The standard brakes were not to his liking and the pads wore through in a very short space of time the day before Christmas! Faced with the possibility of not riding the bike until the new year (because we couldn't get new brake pads sent) we bit the bullet and stuck some Shimano XT's on there. Awesome brakes! Also did some Renthal grips and bar ends while were at it. The motor was getting covered in muck and so we used an old heavy duty 18" inner tube cut to the right size and shape to make a mud guard. Works amazingly well. Keeps ALL the muck off the shock and motor. We put a lift strap on to help him (and me!) lift it without getting our gloves mucky. After breaking a rear fender within his first 10mins of riding we had to do some modifying to help it bend when it needs to so shortened it by 2-3inches, cut the sides off and boiled it in hot water and then put an upward curve in it before cooling it naturally. Not broken one since despite looping the bike countless times. In order to increase rear grip with lower tyre pressures fitted a 1.6inch rim lock to stop the tyre spinning and ripping valves out (which happened twice before we fixed it).
  4. Excellent, looks fun. Wish I was there today!
  5. We had one of the very first batch of the generally available 20's that came in and gave it to my boy straight away. It was meant to be his birthday present in May but they were a little delayed. We used the same packs that we previously used on our Oset 16 36v and just added 2 packs and made it 48v. As long as we have had it he has never reached the bottom of the packs so have never complained of it slowing down with the lipo's and the low voltage alarms have started flashing but not screamed. I haven't actually checked how much milliamps go back in when we charge them but the lowest my chargers have ever reported them was 9% after about 3hrs and 20mins of riding. My boy is quite experienced and rides it like he stole it! I don't really have any desire to ride it as an adult as I have a Gas Gas 300 that I ride and so ours is setup 100% for him with soft suspension and tyre pressures.
  6. We have been running 48v lipo on our 20 since it came out. Works awesome, checkout my battery build: http://www.ktmforum.co.uk/off-road-enduro/140584-oset-20-a.html My boy gets around 3hrs full power.
  7. Do a Google for Tartybikes, they specialise in bicycle trials where the tyres are from. There are a few alternatives but all of them have about the same knobbly height. We have the same problem on our Oset 20, while it is this wet and with electric motor torque they can break traction very quickly. You can lower the tyre pressure which will give more grip (I suspect that may be why the Mecatechno has more grip, seriously doubt that frame design or shock will make that much of a difference on small bikes like these or maybe rider experience has more to do with it). Be careful through, if you lower the tyre pressure too much and your kid gives the bike gas the tyre will spin on the rim and it will rip the valve out so what we did is buy a KTM 65SX rim lock from eBay for £5, drilled the rear rim and put a rim lock in. Now we can run low pressures without the worry of the valve being ripped out and he gets plenty of grip. It would be great to get a more trials oriented tyre for these as the things my boy are now starting to do really needs a better tyre, specially in the wet!
  8. My father in law in the old days: London to Cornwall. Would love to know more about the bike if anyone knows?
  9. http://www.jackpyke.co.uk/ is what you want.
  10. A diet is defined as the 'kinds of food that a person, animal, or community habitually eats'. Following a different eating style like 'low carb' or 'paleo' is simply a different way of eating to what a person may normally eat, it doesn't mean they have to eat less and saying that all diets will slow metabolism is simply not true. Telling someone to eat regularly as much as 5 times a day can be bad if they don't pick the right stuff. Some people will buy 'low fat' but high in sugar foods and eating that 5 times a day is not good specially if they have diabetic tendencies! Add exercise into the mix and your metabolism will increase. Absolutely nothing wrong with lowering your intake of refined (white) carbs and sugar intake. Getting rid of those things will generally stabilise your blood sugar peaks and troughs, lower your cravings and if you eat more protein you will feel fuller for longer. Problem is these days too many people fill their plates with filler foods such as pasta/rice/potatoes/white bread. Unless you eat small portions of those things or are a professional endurance athlete type these generally have a bad effect on your body and energy levels.
  11. Cycle + row + lower your refined carb/sugar intake = body like a god

  13. Does anybody have access to a 2013 TXT Pro 300 wiring diagram? Easiest place to pick up power to run electronic clocks from?
  14. We have a 36V and a 48V bike here and both will run +/- 1hr with an experienced rider using it on the standard batteries. 2.5hrs-3hrs with lipo's on both bikes. I would definitely say there is something wrong with yours somewhere. Oset are incredibly helpful, do give them a ring.
  15. Sounds like you have a duff cell. Have you tested all of them?
  16. Brilliant idea, never even occurred to me and I have a 65SX sitting right next to the Oset!
  17. Since its been raining we have been running low pressures in my boy's Oset 20 to try and get better grip. Problem is from time to time he manages to rip the valve out with the tyre spinning on the rim. Anyone have any solutions for running low pressures and stopping the tyre spinning? Would also be good to know if anyone can recommend a thicker inner tube to prevent pinch flats. Any ideas?
  18. Awesome pic There is a worrying trend here though, none of these pictures show any tire tracks!
  19. Great vid Luke. Me and my boy love riding there. Fantastic place.
  20. That was yesterday at Betchworth quarry on the big chalk hill. They don't make tyre tracks on the hard chalk base. I'll send Apple your compliment though, they'd be very pleased that you think an iPhone pic is so good it must be photoshopped. In the interest of full disclosure the picture was cropped to get rid of the miserable grey sky above!
  21. Great update, thanks! I am 3.5 months into a recovery from a broken shoulder joint and dislocation. Got back on the trials bike after 2 months and a week and enduro bike at exactly 3 months. The shoulder feels good and apart from a small bit of range and a small bit of strength feels almost normal again. I recon another 3 months and I'll be completely back to normal. I took supplements as well, my wife is a therapist and also saw the physio regularly. All really helped.
