  1. Hi there. I've just ordered a set of fork springs to fit in my son's Oset 16 Racing. Apparently they fit in the left hand air fork of the rst forks. They are supposed to soften the ride as the standard forks are a very hard ride even with minimal air in. Was wondering if anyone has done this modification themselves. Do you need to remove any of the existing fork internals on the left side before fitting the springs and what order do the springs go in ? Do they just sit one on top of each other ?  I'm more than happy stripping down trials bike forks but oset forks are MTB forks and seem very different.Screenshot_20230606-160011.thumb.png.d383bab345c303db96a6f45cdfc8a3b6.png

  2. I fitted a Wes silencer on my Ty125 when I was a teenager in the late 80's. It made a massive difference exactly as feet up fun describes. A better sound and more trials specific power. The ty125 silencer was very restrictive with a tiny bore on the outside. It really transformed my little bike and I loved it !!!

  3. I've got my beta Evo insured through Adrian flux on a sorn policy. It is simply a fire and theft policy. I don't have a motorcycle licence either. Not having a licence caused issues with certain insurance companies. I think it's called laid up insurance. They are fairly reasonable at about £200 but excess is £500. Still it's better than having a total loss on a stolen bike.

  4. I wear gaernes as they are the only manufacturer that does eu50 size. They are ridiculously short in height and offer limited shin protection if you are six feet plus. They are very comfortable though.

Garden is now chewed up but at least he enjoyed his first few rides. Mrs sensibly won't let me take him practicing till his proper helmet arrives. Was wondering about washing it? I've always jet washed trials bikes and dried them properly afterwards with no issues at all. I understand jet washing these osets is a big no no. Is this actually the case ? What bits should be kept dry ? If they have such an aversion to water should he even avoid streams and puddles? Any help would be appreciated before I ruin it.

hi guys has anyone had or got the jitsie l3 pants and top was looking at ordering some but dont want them to look like leggings lol any one know what the fit is like thanks

I've got the Jitsie L3 tritzan pants and top. They are fairly loose but not like the hebo baggy pants. I wear full Motocross knee braces under them and there is no issue with fit. I don't think the quality is that good. I've always had Clice clothing which I think is better. The triztan material snags easily and there is no engine / exhaust protection near the knees. I've got numerous holes in mine but perhaps I crash more than most and maybe the braces are pinching the fabric. There is only one pocket too. The top is very thin but comfortable. Again this snags easily. Hope this helps.

  7. There are some reasonably priced beta rev complete rear wheels on eBay at the moment. It would save you the respoking costs. You'd probably struggle to undo 22 year old spokes so you'd need new ones. Second hand complete rear wheel may be a reasonable option.

How do they not roll out of their groove when sliding assy together?

    Lube?

    Mahalo,

    Skiddy

The recess in the groove prevents that. They sit proud enough for the o-rings to act as seals yet sit deep enough to not be pushed into the silencer by the header pipe advancing inwards.

  9. I've just taken delivery of my new Evo 300. I've always ridden Betas. My last bike was a 2020 Evo 300. Rode new bike for the first time on Fri. It is so different to the 2020. The 2nd gear seems like a gear I would use in every section now. On my 2020 I would always do slow tricky stuff in 1st but the 2023 bike will happily creep along the slowest section in 2nd yet still has the guts to blast up anything. Sprocket sizes seem the same. It must be down to ignition and mapping ? Has anybody else noticed a big difference? And they say beta just change the stickers ..........

  10. Just put the packing on the tube first, then into the end cap, then advance into the silencer body. It's really tricky to do it the other way round because of the angled end cap. Your bike will feel like a new bike after. It makes a big difference.

  11. The preformed sheath only goes on the aerated steel tube. Part of which is housed in the end cap and the rest in the upper body of the silencer. The aerated tube slots into a hole at either end. You can't put it anywhere else. The old packing should be wrapped around the aerated steel tube when you pull it out. It will be a black sooty mess. Any residual bits you can just pick out.

I've added a photo. Packing goes on the highlighted blue but.

I seen that you can get a preformed one but it looks like it does the large part too not just the end.

A lot of the packing is inside the end cap too. The steel metal pipe that terminates at the end of the rubber bung inside the end cap has holes in it. Just make sure the packing covers these holes. I put the preformed sheath over the steel tube, then slide the end of the tube into the rubber grommet in the end cap, then push the whole thing into the body of the silencer. I use a long screwdriver to make sure the packing doesn't get stuck when advancing it into the aluminium silencer body.

  13. Just do the straight bit. Beta sell a packing sheath to make the job really easy and guarantee the correct amount of packing. Make sure you burn off the metal pipe that runs through the silencer before you repack.

I also burn off the whole exhaust whilst the silencer is off. I just pour petrol down it and let it burn off. Slow running trials engines have coked up exhausts. Don't burn off the alloy silencer though. I just soak that in a good degreaser overnight. The exhaust then polishes up again with some wire wool Brillo pad.

The bike sounds crisp after the repack and burn off of exhaust.

All 4rt where’s fit front and back

There is spacer on latest showa models you could buy or get made

I even think the inners race of a wheel bearing is correct size.

I have an early 315 or possibly earlier front as my practice wheel - I have 3 sets- it has bigger hub 6 bolts for disc but still fits - had to get correct disc but had wheel for peanuts.

post 2000 315 wheels fit but need to get correct 315 sprocket and disc as have extra bolts to mount them .

Might give you a few more options 👍👍

    Thanks Jimmy. Very informative.

  15. I'm thinking about getting a spare wheelset. I see jitsie are currently doing them. My current bike is a 2020 4rt 260 with the tech forks. Obviously a set of wheels is a major investment. What I want to know is will these wheels fit newer 4rt 260's and 301rr if I decide to change or upgrade my bike. Most of these have showa forks. Will I simply be able to fit the original spacers from any possible new montesa into the new jitsie wheels? I wouldn't bother investing in the wheels if they are not transferable.

  16. I suffer from pressure on my ulna nerve when I ride. It results in a painful palm on the outside of the hand near the little finger and radiates down to the wrist. Basically my grip is squeezing my nerve when I ride. Trials gloves are very thin and unforgiving. I've found the only things that help are soft grips, padded gloves and not riding too frequently. I limit it to 1 trial or ride a week. Physio definitely helps such as squeezing a tennis ball. Hopping definitely makes my hands worse too. I also take 400 mg of ibuprofen before I ride to dampen down any inflammation. In between sections I do hand exercises too.

65:1 is too much oil as you have seen when you open the throttle, I doubt this has anything to do with the knocking though.

This is the mixture bvm recommended to me for this particular oil. I would not run such a ratio with other oils.

Hi gazza, I had a knocking noise from my 2016 Evo and my 2019 Evo. Both times it was the front sprocket.

As you say there is noise when revved stationary, but definitely there riding in between sections.

As the sprocket wears it makes the chain jump up a bit causing the noise which you think sounds expensive !

Put a new sprocket on the 2016, problem solved !

On the 2019, with me being tight, I actually filed the sprocket back in shape and that solved it.

If you have a spare sprocket in good condition 10 or 11 tooth, give it a go, nothing to lose and possibly a cheap fix.

To be fair, I think that the worn swingarm bearing isn't helping the situation, but your getting that done, but do try that sprocket, it done my head in for quite a while and I asked a fair few people, but came up with no answers

    Good luck

Thanks for the info. Chain and sprockets are original and I've ridden the bike a fair bit. Time for a new set maybe.

  19. Was riding my first competition in 10 years yesterday and noticed a knocking sound whilst riding between sections in 3rd and forth gear.  I've never noticed this noise before and I'm convinced I can't hear it in the sections or when I'm practicing. Certainly isn't there whilst revving Bike stationary.  Bike is completely standard. Air screw set as per factory. I've never touched it. I run Castrol power 1 racing at 65 to 1. Could this be pinking ?

I think the bike is probably coked up quite a bit as I could see it was smoking like mad when riding distances between sections when it actually had the chance to heat up properly. My usual riding is very slow section type practice and it never gets a long run or a chance to burn off combustion by products. I'm due to repack the silencer and burn off the exhaust this week.

I noticed my chain tensioner has quite a bit of lateral play and needs replacing and my sprocket side swing arm bearing has gone too. I'm changing these this week but I don't think the noise is coming from these but I could be wrong.

Any suggestions would be welcome. Thanks
