I will try to pay attention to the SPT line this weekend while setting up for the upcoming event.

We normally try to lay each section out where everything can be made without the need for any hopping of the front or rear wheels.

If you can hop the bike you may be able to better your line but it will not be necessary.

SPT line for Metamora should be on the more technical side than on the scary side. We will have a couple tall suspended logs but a nice run is given

    for a good attack.

Lets just cross our fingers that the rain holds off this time.

I'll have more info and maybe post a Metamora event topic after the weekend.

  2. Nationals are coming up this weekend in Duluth Aug 22-23. Any tips from the local club putting the event on?? How is the river water level? Low / high?

I suppose we should take time to seal up our flywheel covers good.

Where are the good places in the area to eat and have a drink to clear the throat after riding?

Any other tips or info would be great to here. 5 of us are leaving from Michigan on Wed after work.

  3. Thanks for the event guys! Seemed like a pretty good turn out? Anyone aware of the total number of riders?

It was nice to see the 4 or 5 guys from Canada take the drive to ride. Has anyone given them the MOTA schedule? It

would be nice if they could make it to more MOTA events.

  4. You would have to explain a little more? If the rear tire is not rotating the bike is either in gear, chain is thrown and bound up or the engine is locked up.

If the bike ran when you set it on the stand then its safe to say the engine did not lock up while sitting on the stand.

If you wheeled the bike to the stand odds are the chain is fine.

Check to ensure if bike is in neutral. Does the bike shift thru the gears alright? You can do all this without the bike running of course.

Check to make sure your chain is not off or bound up someplace up by the front sprocket for example.

Is your chain tensioner free and moving properly?

You sure you were not out joy riding the bike and locked it up then wanted to wash it to remove all evidence that the bike had been riden before Dad got home??

  5. I have a couple different types of bar ends, I am sure we can trade to get you ones that work.

Yes, Jim and I are going thru Joe's bike to help him get it ready for the Nationals... Lets just say it needs some work!!

I will be going to Windsor with my Dad and Mason but I am sure ther is room for one more.

  6. God I should have thought of that! We'll buy um cheap and sell them to Zippy!

Yeah except for the fact that after Zippy tells me the wife won't let him spend any money and the kids are hungry and even though his bearings are seized he really doesn't need them as he rides away with his front tire skidding and his shorts flapping in the wind (I assume cause he can't afford pants?) I will end up chasing after him and selling the $4 bearing to him for $3.75

  7. not sure on that one Gaby? Hopefully some one will chime in that knows. I believe you are still goot wit hphoto ID and birth cert but

    don't go on that.

Hope everyone makes it a point to go to the Wnndsor event. Those guys always put on a good event for what they have to work with.

I totally understand about supporting your local dealer! I am a local dealer, just not for Sherco's. I am trying to help a fellow rider out and get his bike ready for the MN.

Nationals. I buy all my bearings from a bearing supplier, it allows me to offer my customer a product at a fair price and I can actually make more money on it. Everyone is happy.

I could buy wheel bearings from my importer at $40 ea then I have to mark it up from there. I buy direct from a local bearing distributer at $4 ea. Yes we are talking the same quality bearing.

I can then mark the bearing up to say $12 and make more money and save my customer big bucks.

In order for us small local dealers to make any type of profit we have to be smart and save where we can. I spend allot of time doing research on where to get the best parts for the best price both for myself and the end user the customer.

    Thank You for you comments.

  9. Is anybody aware of a bearing/seal kit for the rear suspension on a 07 Sherco 290?

I was recently show a kit that All Balls sells for the Gas Gas and was wondering if a kit like that exist for the Sherco?

All Balls does not list a kit for the Sherco on there web site.

If no kit then does anybody have the numbers for the bearings/seals needed? They seem to wear fast so it must be a common repair.

Numbers listed on Sherco parts diagram seem to be difficult to find.

    HK 16162RS

    HK 14162RS

    HK 16202RS

    HK 20X20X2RS (SWINGARM)

  10. I'll break my thought down per each question.

    1. Is the two day format the way to go?

2 day event is great for this location and Indiana Not sure if I'd like it any other place.

    2. Trailloop length?

Loop was nice. a little rough to actually relax on but still I enjoyed it. I heard it was 3.5 miles? Is that accurate?

    3. Difficulty of sections? Tougher? Easier?

Only complaint was there was a little to much hopping. Most ADV/Exp guys can hop but having to hop in 2 or 3 spots per section in 6 out of 10 sections makes it tough. Adv line was nice for both days. I would say a little light on Sat but nice on Sunday. Bike stalls on Sat added to my points.

    4. More big stuff for Adv- Experts?

ADV was fine. A couple hairy drop offs into the stream I would not of put ADV down put they all rode nice.

    5. Food concessions?

Wow, ther was food there? I did not know that but? I spent little time up by sign up so I must of missed it? . Badlands had a great breakfast!!

    6. Cost of event-Camping and electric fees?

    No problems here.

    7. Distance?

    No problems here.

    Just my thoughts.

  11. To the East Side Trials club.

Thanks to all in the East Side Trials club for hosting a great 2 days of riding. It was obvious that allot of work was put into the new property!

Section layout was nice with something for everyone! Again, great job!

A special thanks to the Bent Wheels club for opening up the property for us to all enjoy!

now we are really off topic. I know the owner of the Limberlost bar and we take 20-30 people up 3 times a year to work security for his big events.

Its safe to say it gets a little crazy there!

Clutch does not work on KTM, has a leak someplace and I have been told it is common for an o-ring to fail in the slave cylinder. I just haven't had time to look at it.

I've been doing it for about 9 years now I'd say. We get some pretty good size guys to work and have a good time.

  13. Kjax

KTM still needs an O-Ring for the clutch slave cyl and also a battery. Yes I could kick it but why?

I am bouncing at a bar on friday night in Houghton Lake and may also work ther Sat night. Odds are I'll blow off Sat night

to hang with the trials crew.

I will be pulling into the BW property around 3:30am after I get done working the bar I figure. It will be a long weekend for sure..

  14. Zippy

You are correct, this is way offf topic. MOTA goes of the NATC rules so the 5 for foot down would be a bit different than MOTA members trying to decide on adding another class or two.

Plus it would have to be all or nothing. We really couldn't have the observers be timing the time a foot is held down.

Heck when I check our event and if I know the rider riding and am in a converstaion with someone else half the time I have to ask the rider what they got since I wasn't watching...

Now if I had to time someone I'd really be messed up. Not to mention the difficulty working a stop watch while holding a beer!!

  15. I had spoken with a couple of the board members last year in Vermontville about adding a new class and it was strongly discouraged.

I never followed thru with the proposal after that since the outcome was obvious.

It was made very clear that we already have enough classes and that we do not have the numbers to justify another set of trophies/medals.

I really wanted to add 2 classes.

    1. Champ class. (Like TI Series) This would allow ADV to be backed down a bit and also Spt. while also be able to push our top riders to prepare them for the Nationals.

I know many think our EXP line is tough but it is really a poor class to prepare our top guys for the National ES or EXP line.

I agree with Zippy that the ADV line gets layed out for the top 2 or 3 riders. Plus keep in mind a couple of those guys are EXP level riders. Nothing against them it just shows

how difficult the EXP line is. You really have to take time to practice to ride EXP. Its tough on the working family guy to compete.

2.Novice Pro: Call it what you want Novice A & Nov B whatever. We have to many new riders in the INT class that really still do not know how to ride. Nobody wants

to ride Nov because its not cool I suppose so they go into INT and can't do it or get hurt and discouraged and leave the sport.

I strongly feel we should have a points promotion system where you have to earn the right to get into INT.

I think it would make better riders in the long run.

SR. class should be moved up to the age of 50. If you don't agree with me than think of what the the Senior line-up could be within the next 2-3 years.

SR class riders: Jim Gawne, Brad Howard, Gray Howard, Robert Rosen etc. A couple of these guys already qualify......How would you like to sign up against that team on the SR line???? I think we all agree they are way to good for the SR line.

  16. I hate when people get way off topic but had to point out the consistancy of Jim's emails.. 8:02am on the dot two days in a row..

To bad he wasn't that consistant on where he leaves his wallet....

Agree for simplicity sake Sportsman should run easy ADV. and Hard INT. We used to do that, not sure why we went away from it?

I know our club is quilty of creating a seperate Sportsman line in recent events.

    Kjax

Are you guys bringing the rocks onto the property or where they already there. I didn't think that area had very many large rocks. Seems like

mostly sand. The property should hold up well if it rains.

  17. Kjax

The Rose City event sounds like it will be a great time! 2 mile loop will be a nice, thanks for all the effort you guys are putting

    into it.

Sportsman is a pretty big jump up from from the SR line but it is worth a shot. Maybe a good way to gage the Sportsman line is for you is to ride the sections

your club is laying out for your event. Sounds like most of the sections are new so it should give you some idea of how you could do riding that line.

  18. I totally agree with Jim about last years Rose City event! It was great to have all the "Old School" sections.

I think many of todays young or even new riders have not learned the basics and last years Rose City was a

perfect reminder to all how important basic practice is needed.

For Jims sake no big splatters in EXP!!!!! He is going to be riding on one leg if he can even ride by then! He tore his ACL at

the Whitemore Lake event for those that do not know. He still can't walk well but plans to ride Rose City and finish off the year before having surgery!

Hey, nobody said trials riders were smart!

With the club members involved I am sure it will be an excellent event and am looking forward to it.
