Andy
Well, the waiting is over and now everybody who is interested will know whether they have managed to be allocated a ride in the Scottish Six Days following the publication earlier this week of the entry list of accepted riders. As always, I scan the entry list to see if all the riders with whom I have regular contact are entered, and the first obvious omission is Graham Jarvis. I say obvious because Graham has ridden the Scottish every year since goodness knows when, but of course the following week he is at the helm of the British round of the World Trials Championship, so presumably he has his hands full with that and has taken the decision to miss out on the Scottish. cleanorbust
Speaking as a relative old-timer and nostalgia buff a couple of points struck me on reading the 2009 SSDT entry list: - Chris Clarke is back, presumably the same one who had some great rides in the 70s and 80s and scooped some best-on-day awards in his time. - the absence of Rob Griffiths after some 40 years of continuous participation. I believe he may even have been at it longer than Nigel Birkett; it would be a shame if this feat went unheralded. steve fracy
Another entry in this years SSDT that for sure will go un-noticed unless you are Canadian, is Stan Bakgaard. Stan was Canadian Champ in 81-82 and also #2 in the US at one point. He also holds the prestigious title of the best ever finish in the Scottish, 13th in 1984! If you have the results from that year, check out some of the riders he beat, and some of the names that were in the top 15. An impressive ride! Stan is still a very good rider, and I am sure will thoroughly enjoy his first ride back in the Highlands in over 20yrs! Cheers, Steve
