Andy
Back in August I wrote about the Torridge Club who had just organised a successful British Championship round and also referred to Brian Higgins of the Torridge Club who was likely to be voted in as Chairman of the ACU from next month. Well, I can now confirm that Brian Higgins has been voted into that position, and he will be the ACU Chairman for the next three years. And it is John Collins who has been voted as Deputy Chairman of the ACU. Now as far as I am concerned, it would be hard to find two individuals better suited to these posts and I think it would be very difficult to find two persons who are as dedicated to the ACU and the sport as a whole than Brian and John. As I wrote back in August, Brian has been a long time friend
chewy
Spot on, it may be that these two good men can keep focussed on trials and trials riders within the "melting pot" of the ACU, what with that and Dave Willobey (bound to spell that wrong ..sorry) we may come to see some common sense being practised to facilitate trials sport for all. One has several questions to ask which could help them decide thier agenda, things which affect me as an trials rider, organser and fan. One that crops up for example is why do I need to go to a seminar every 3 years to proove that I can read a rule book and keep up with what's neccessary(one suspects insurance companies and red tape/sloping shoulders are involved). I got my driving licence 44 years ago and still have a few years (fingers crossed) until I have to be tested for suitability again. One for FIM is why is insurance for international events practically impossible for over 50 's (there a a few excellent events worth riding that are international but not world rounds, in fact eminently suitable for riders of all ages and abilities). I hope that these guys can actully connect and stay connected with thier "grass roots" it's what is needed to get ordinary riders proud to be associated with the ACU rather than seeing them as a neccesary evil that is easier to put up with than finding other solutions to insurance /organisational problems. I normally read these things back to myself before hitting the publish button as I normally start to rant on a bit ..this time no editing . big john
Given both Brian Higgins and John Collins' knowledge and experience as both being riders and long serving officials, this can only be good for the sport of motorcycling. I think it only natural that motorcycle competition is governed by people that have a true interest in bike competition. As for recreational "biking" and control of illegal off-road riding, that would be better served by others (IMHO). Big John
