Straight from the MOTA handbook (come ride with us we are fun)

Section 5. Scoring Practices

a) The following scoring table shall be used. Point losses are not

cumulative. The rider shall receive the point loss value of his worst

error.

Points

None (Clean Ride)………….…….……….…..0

1 Dab* (Foot rotation allowed).….……….….1

2 Dabs……………………………...…….….….2

3 Dabs or more (including sliding of foot)…...3

Dabbing one (1) time while stopped………….1

Dabbing two (2) times while stopped…..….…2

Dabbing three (3) times while stopped….……3

Moving backwards……………………………...5

Failure……………………….……………….…..5

• *Dab - Contact between the rider’s foot or any other part of his body

and a supporting surface or object.

• *Dabbing outside of section markers shall be scored the same as

dabbing in the section

My personal opinion on dabbing while stopped is that it is a 5, but these are the rules we have and they are not horrible and I get to have fun.

Now you see! Just about the time we get over the foot fetish thing, you got some gut like Zipper posting the entire MOTA rulebook in one paragraph!

Now, I do think there are a few up there that had a bit too much fun back in the 60's or 70's, but I also think there are a few that grew up there, and think everything is normal!

I should add the comments of why I linda like the rulas the way they are.

Sometimes after going up, down around , over, under through and then start over for a few more, I may suffer from spacial disorientatation and brain overload in a section.

I may go into "sticker shock" mode after three and just want to paddle my but out of there to regain composure at some point!

Thank God for 3's!!!!!!!!!!!!! :rolleyes:

Well reading #4 in one of the above post:

One foot down on both sides of the bike at the same time.

AHRMA (and I think others)count this as an automatic 5 for that section.

From the 2011 AHRMA rulebook, page 75;

7) Touching both feet to the ground at the same time while astride the machine = 2

points (one dab for each foot).

So Wut izzit ?

Is a rotation a Dab ? ( B*** S***) !

As far as AHRMA ...2 feets down at rest = 5 ( 1 for that matter )

As far as MOTA ... "Dab' is open to discussion .

As far as Copey...I resemble that resentment ! :moon:

While hitting on the rules and such, the other "thing" is the (BACKING UP)rule.

When taken to the stricktist limit, I feel it is a bit much, and not in the Spirit of the trials.

A bit of settling of the bike, rocking when stuck in a hole and such, bouncebacks, is a lot different that moving back for advantage. Settling back into a hole is a good example, don't know I can put a number on it, but backing out the hole for another attempt would be the kicker for me. All point being "for advantage"! :rolleyes:

Agreed the backing up rule is always a hard one to judge. One instance i see all the time in my club is at the pro level. Alot of the time our pro riders like to hop to get them selves into a better position for the next part of the section. When they do this however i can visibly see the bike beginning to move backwards usually no more than most of a quarter wheel turn distance but still. Can be hard to judge.

I still think the rule applies even when you have a hole or a gap in the way. Part of trials is being clever about getting out of messes.

Problem solved.

We from this point on should vow to never dab again. We will keep our feet on the pegs no matter the situation. That way when we crash and collect our 5 we will be able to do so knowing full well that there will be no confusion as to the score. :dunce: And then I can get the observer to sign my cast also.
