Pinging

Hi all ive just put engine back together on my txt pro 2002 after a crank rebuild and my engine is pinging

call me stupid but think i may of advanced my timing

which way do you turn the stator to retard it slightly

Have you checked the squish clearance when refitting cylinder head?

Crank rebuild - did this include new connecting rod?

Leak test, You need to blank off inlet with blanking plate / bung. Leave the reeds in but prop them open. Fit a blanking plate to exhaust outlet on barrel with tyre valve in it and pressurise engine to between 5 and 10 PSI and see if it drops over a few minutes period.

cheers dad at wotk at min but wen i get bk ill recheck squish and yes new rod

ill be honest wen i rebuilt engine and started it i mistaken the pinging for piston slap as i didnt know anything about detonation so i rang gas gas up they said keep ading base gaskets which altered the port timining is this the reason for it overheating what happens wen u raise cylinder cheers again
