What's Going On With Gas Gas

Thank you to those who has said my post was valid.

In an ideal world I would post under my name, but the internet is far from an ideal world. I was at trials for 3 days over bank holiday weekend and there were several comments made about GG and their current situation that were a lot more critical than I have ever been, and expressed in terms not repeatable on here. If I did post under my name perhaps 0.5% of my posts would be affected because they involve information from private conversations. There are many occasions when I would like to post under my name, or make posts that I cannot without revealing my name. So far I only know of one person who has made a totally "panic sale" of their GG but my son did comment there suddenly seemed to be a lot on Facebook.

I mentioned Maico, but fortunately for GG owners MX is (or was) quite a bit different. There is quite a bit on a GG that can sourced elsewhere (Braketec for example), this was not the case with Maico. Also in MX, crash or impact damage is much more common so you need more of fast moving stock parts.

Remember I am the owner of 2 GGs (not Pros) and it is not in my interest to devalue them of not have spares available.

If the spares were made by subcontractors those companies will still want to produce and sell them so no problem and know they're going to get paid for them.Most of the consumables are used by other brands anyway.All the importers will want spares to be available so will be doing everything possible for it to happen,there's a lot of bikes out there.Prices of spares might have to rise to sort this out,which is better than having an unusable bike for the sake of a £50 part which is unavailable.Riders choose the brand they ride cos it's the one they want,most aren't going to want to buy something they like less after taking a hit selling a Gas gas at the moment.Dad of 2 is right in his views but Maico made most of the bike inhouse so when they folded so did the spares

Just be aware that there is more chance of a buyer for Gas Gas now than before. Things could change very quickly once the liquidator is in a position to sell the assets.

anyway my main point that got lost in my horrible attempt at a tad bit of humor is:

I am very happy with my GasGas and will not be selling it just because the brand is having some troubles.  

Also if I had the funds and opportunity to purchase a newer GasGas I most definitely would buy one.  (2010 or newer has the new round tube frame right?)

 

I too am curious where the contents of the factory have gone to...........

I,d suggest that those who are panicking about selling up are those who probably buy a new bike every year anyway and those who don't fully understand the situation.

I'd suggest that there won't be a problem for many years. Half the bike is bought in from suppliers who supply other makes, brakes, controls, suspension, wheels. Linkage bearings and the like can already be bought for 3/4 of Gasgas prices from engineers merchants.

Look at the industry and specialists who have sprung up around twinshock and pre65. The country is full of people who can weld, machine, turn and manufacture; if mortal man made it, mortal man can fix it. Even if push comes to shove, they've made 1000's of Pros. Even crankcases and gearbox parts will be available for years to come. Look at Bultos and Ossa,s and Fantics. When monos arrived, we couldn't wait to get rid of them. Now, nearly 40 years on we can still keep them running. Gassers will not be a problem, I'm sure.

TC posters,

look at how many bike specific topic options there are on this website. look at how many have folded or are out of business. have any bike brands come back from the dead? are there still enthusiasts for all brands regardless of financial health? big and small companies can fail. after it happens every body can see why but as its happening its really really hard to determine what the right corse of action is.

Divorce is like this. You can generally see it for what it was after it has happened. Now the focus is how does gasgas get back into the dating scene yet not reproduce history. I am biased but i feel for what they are going through.

Im gonna go post an add for a non bipolar not greedy spanish financial expert now. one of those take home to momma type of accountant next door types.

I don't think parts will dry up quick, As others have stated most parts are made by 3rd party companies.

 

I reckon It's all part of a big plan.

 

A new (Jota) Gas Gas might appear to fill the gap in the trials and enduro market.

Why did you leave GasGas?

"I go because others entered the company and made it go another direction and they no understand nothing, they no have the ideas and I no have to make a lot of compromise and they lose the money. The director not understand the motorbikes, not understand the business, no have nothing clear. There was a lot of risk for me and after 3 months I get out. The result is this. GasGas company is much less business now than before . Big problems. 30% of the problem was for me , so I leave.
I take out by percentage and I save the loss we were leading to. Later I get more money out also and I have no problems. GasGas is not possible. GasGas not have a future. The idea of the company and the direction is very poor. They don't have idea. They are like Ossa."

I bought a '05 Pro about a month ago. It's my first trials bike since an RL250 when I was 15 (some 23 years ago). I always wanted a Gasgas, so I'm not going to rush to sell it. Everyone has said that there are plenty of spares available, so I'll keep it until I'm ready to upgrade and deal with any price drop when I've had my fun out of it.

There are rumours that there may be quite a few new 4 stroke GGs somewhere. Its also been written that GGs Debts are more like 33 million Euros, not 23 million.

Who now owns the GG brand name and any patents, and what is someone prepared to pay to own them? Some suggest KTM are interested, some say Israeli investors.

Does GG have anything anyone cannot get hold of by other means, apart from the name the answer is no. KTM could strip a gasser, copy it and improve it in the process. The trials market is not healthy and two new (Vertigo & TRS) cannot be far off launching very competitive products.

Given the above circumstances someone will have to have more than the normal financial justification for making such an investment.

The factory is being "emptied" what auction or administrators or what?

4 stroke gassers do you mean trials? If so a journalist I know tried what they had back 5 years ago and there is not many of them, how you in lancashire could know more is interesting?

The debts were about 40 million euros.(see relase elsewhere with FACTS)

Gas gas have few if any patents afaik, who would buy a brand name in these circumstances -what would be the point?

The KTM rumour was over a year old and KTM released a statement saying they weren't interested (see release elsewhere)

Israeli investors are not rescuing GG.

KTM can do lots of things but why would that company want to build a Trials bike given their target market.

The trials market is not healthy? No Sh!t sherlock.

TRS competitive are you sure? Launching soon both, really?

More than normal financial investment wtf does that mean?
