Horn For Mot

Recommended Posts

I'm looking for a horn that will pass an mot. I ordered what I thought would be sufficient off tinterweb but it was rejected as it wasn't a single tone constant. Can anyone recommend a particular one to get as opposed to just suggesting a battery powered horn.

I couldn't find a single tone battery horn, so bought a proper horn to wire in. Haven't done it yet but it looks like the wire to the thermostat for the fan will need to be the power source for it.

Back in the good-old bad-old days we used a rubber bulb blowing through a reed and a 6 inch metal cone. They were utterly pathetic and some didn't work at all. At machine examination, if one didn't work, every else in the queue blew theirs and the examiner would pass it.

Correct. And, according to the current MOT regulations, a bulb horn is still acceptable on a pre-73 bike as long as it can be heard above the noise of the engine.

So I go to yet another tester and ask him about the horn I have, he says, ye that'll be fine....cool I thinks....then he says, remember the tyres have to be E marked etc, I tell him it has not for road use in USA & Canada, he says, nah they won't pass.  :moon:

Scratch that, seems tyres marked with an E and a circle round it are legal, which both michie and dunlop have.
