bashplate Posted December 5, 2016 Report Share Posted December 5, 2016 Hey guys, my mates cota will not run unless the plug gap is set to about 10 thou. He has changed the points and condenser....then the coil.....then the mag, no change. Any ideas, it runs quite nice for around 15 sections, then fouls the plug(wet)....we kinda stumped what to try next, any suggestion gratefully received. bullylover Posted December 5, 2016 Report Share Posted December 5, 2016 (edited) How is the wiring from the ignition to the coil. That could be the problem if it is old and hard. Worth a try anyway. bashplate Posted December 6, 2016 Author Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 all wiring is newish, replaced when the other stator coils were put in. many, many plugs have been tried, cap and HT lead also. the only thing not changed so far is the mag rotor.....could the magnets be weak after all these years? bigshineybike Posted December 6, 2016 Report Share Posted December 6, 2016 People suggest moving the condenser away from its hiding place in the depths of the engine. Most Montesas have them located behind the flywheel and it was thought to be ok at the time. Some suggest the heat gets to them. tonyp8845143 Posted February 26, 2017 Report Share Posted February 26, 2017 I mounted an aftermarket condenser (I think it was for a 1967 Ford Mustang) under the fuel tank and installed an Iridium spark plug on both of my 247 Cotas and my spark is much better.
