One For The Americans

Yahoo is number 12 in the world for websites. The Uk has none in the top 50. Would you like me to send you something safer from Somalia.

I don't think it really matters much if there are examples of anti-Trump hate speech. There will be, we all know that. Some of it will be lies and fabrication, some of it justified truths.

What is far more significant is that the President of the United States produces hate speech against large segments of his own country's population, as well as other nations. That is simply inexcusable from a person who's role is to support and develop his nation. Anyone who can do that, not occasionally and accidentally but consistently and deliberately (as deliberate as someone as stupid and probably senile as Trump can be), is patently unfit to hold the office!

Research demonstrates that hate speech by political figures boosts domestic terrorism (https://www.tandfonline.com/doi/abs/10.1080/03050629.2020.1739033?journalCode=gini20). Since the beginning of Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign, domestic terrorism has more than doubled in the United States according to the Global Terrorism Database.

The empowerment of white supremacists and other hate groups during Trump's term is of huge concern. People value what they have far more highly than what they might have in the future. So what might happen when there is a pullback in the support for these groups? It is quite possible that they will fight vigorously to protect what they "have", whereas prior to Trump they had simmered more or less in the background. Civil wars don't need to look like the last one in the USA with army's standing up across fields shooting each other, a contemporary civil war could look very much like domestic terrorism.

And that's not even starting on the elephant in the room, global warming of which Trump has no clue and no plan. He still even pretends that there's an argument over this!

So is it really true that "the people are doing better than under previous Presidents."? Or is that just a very shortsighted perspective based on narrow criteria such as the immediate contents of your wallet?

To clear the air a little. I have never voted for a Democrat for President ever,  and I have always voted for Democrats every election. I am registered to vote Republican, just because you have to be one of either of these parties to vote in the primaries. Which I would call tilted against the six other parties.

Back to Trump. IF he never had a Twitter account the World would have different views That is his main nemisis is his uncontrolled social media posts. Just like most of the world that we currently live in. Very strange for a man his age.

All this hate speech, White priveledge, Me too, BLM, etc, etc. Is mainly a bunch of crap. Tearing down statues, changing names of schools and teams in athlectic sports will not change history what so ever. Most of it happened, humans can be very terrible. Nothing is going to change because you kneel, in fact your disrespect is just making it worse.

And YES the economy is doing better under President Trump. We are a country built on Capitalism. Trump was never a politician, like it or not life has gotten better for Americans that WORK!

Trump has no clue on climate change? That is probably true as the top scientists for the last 5 decades are pretty clueless too.

Did anyone notice the clouds changed quite a bit about 20 years ago. Our fine scientist did to, but said don't be alarmed. We can fit them in the class definitions that we already have. They have always tried to hide things from us commoners.

And so all of a sudden the world has a conscius on the damage done to the planet in the last 150 years. You fools better tell this to China as they are the problem. The USA has been working on this since before 1970. You want to compare what we have required on our vehicles compared to yours for the last 50 years?

Trump pulled out of all your crap ideas because we are not going to fund your projects anymore. He is fighting for the USA, not the EU.

The damn Democrats want the USA to become a third world country. The rest of us do not want that. Not too hard to understand.

Too bad next Tuesaday comes so soon.

Yes, the US system of voter registration and electoral college is a weird mutation of the concept of democracy. No doubt implemented all those years ago for reasons that made sense at the time, but that are now anachronistic. I never even knew there were 6 other parties!

No, his nemesis is his mouth and the rubbish that comes out of it. It happens he uses Twitter, but if he didn't he would just promote the same stuff via another outlet.

All this hate speech, White priveledge, Me too, BLM, etc, etc. Is mainly a bunch of crap. Tearing down statues, changing names of schools and teams in athlectic sports will not change history what so ever. Most of it happened, humans can be very terrible. Let me guess, just like me you are white, middle class, working male. I don't think things are so rosy if you are from a wide range of other demographics. I know that here in Australia bigotry and racism against indigenous peoples is still the norm - I can't imagine how hard it would be to get a "fair go" if I were in that demographic in Australia.

Trump has no clue on climate change? That is probably true as the top scientists for the last 5 decades are pretty clueless too.

Now that is simply willful ignorance, not to put too fine a point on it. The vast majority of climate scientists have been pointing to climate change for decades, back to the 70's. The problem is ignorant people who believe that their unfounded "beliefs" carry as much weight as rigorous scientific analysis. No, science doesn't have all the answers, and yes, scientists make mistakes. However they actively seek out those mistakes and try to learn from them to gain better understanding and better answers. To even suggest that because science doesn't have an absolute, definite answer to a question then science is clueless indicates a serious lack of understanding of scientific process!

Did anyone notice the clouds changed quite a bit about 20 years ago. Our fine scientist did to, but said don't be alarmed. We can fit them in the class definitions that we already have. They have always tried to hide things from us commoners.

What? Scientists publish their research so it can be peer reviewed and thereby gain recognition, or have the flaws pointed out so it can be improved upon. Just because you or I don't read those papers doesn't mean they are hiding them.

And so all of a sudden the world has a conscius on the damage done to the planet in the last 150 years. You fools better tell this to China as they are the problem. The USA has been working on this since before 1970. You want to compare what we have required on our vehicles compared to yours for the last 50 years?

Hmmm. I think you might need to do a little more research on that one. Perhaps you've been believing Trumps Twitter feed. China is a problem, certainly, but that doesn't exonerate the rest of us from taking action. China has a zero emissions target by 2060, the USA has no zero emissions target. I'd add that our Australian government is doing it's best to avoid doing anything about us being the one of the 2 highest emitting per capita countries in the world, I'm ashamed of that.

"The US remains the world’s second biggest emitter and the number one historical emitter. The average American’s carbon footprint is twice that of a Chinese or EU citizen". "Today, the US is the second biggest carbon polluter in absolute terms."

Vehicle emissions controls were not implemented to combat climate change, they were primarily to improve air quality. The fact that they do somewhat reduce carbon emissions is a small secondary benefit, but take a look at the vehicles on your roads - how many people really need an eg. 6.2L V8 Chevy Suburban that gets 14mpg (16.8 L/100km for we metric people)? Transport is your biggest emitter, followed by electricity of which 63% is from coal and gas. Your targets for emissions reductions are as pathetically low as ours in Australia, for the same selfish reasons. Do yourself and your kids a favour and don't pretend otherwise.

Trump pulled out of all your crap ideas because we are not going to fund your projects anymore. He is fighting for the USA, not the EU.

He's fighting for something, it's just hard to see quite what, except Trump.

The damn Democrats want the USA to become a third world country. The rest of us do not want that. Not too hard to understand.

I hate to break it to you, but the USA is a third world country by several measures - healthcare that is effectively only available to the (relatively) wealthy, wealth inequality on par with Haiti and El Salvador (worse than Senegal and Iran), social safety nets that likely make many third world countries look generous and far behind many (most?) developed countries, its education ranking in 2018 was 38th in math scores and 24th in science. The United States' education rankings have been falling by international standards over the past three decades, as the government has decreased education funding by 3%. The USA sits between Kenya and Niger on the Global Terrorism Index, an increasing fundamentalist/extremist religious presence... The similarities between the USA and many third world countries is striking. The difference is the USA has been a financially wealthy country. As at September/October the USA ranked 20th on, get this, holdings of US$ federal reserves! China holds 22.6 times as much US$ reserves! Do you seriously think that Trumpesque isolationism is a good path to follow when 20 countries each hold more international reserves than the USA?

Really, truly I am not trying to attack America or Americans - I'm just trying to point out that the great American dream is a long gone myth, and the USA is well on the way to destroying the very qualities that once made it a significant nation on the global stage. We all need to adapt to where the world is going, like it or not, and America seems to be doing a particularly bad job of it currently.

Too bad next Tuesaday comes so soon.

I presume that is an admission that you believe Trump will lose?

I've commented in the quoted post.

No, America is going to lose. Biden will pass away within a year and Harris will become the first woman President. And she is one crazy lady.

By the way on my ballot for President, I had four other party`s.

Green Party

Libertarian Party

Constitution Party

Socialism & Liberation Party

A Communist Party also exists, but most states won`t recognize them as a Party.

I am interested why you think Ms Harris is "crazy"?  She is well educated and appears to have been reasonably successful in her career.  She supports environmental protection and consumer rights and just looks like regular person to me.  In what way is she mentally ill?  She does not tweet ridiculous lies on a hourly basis or suggest injecting oneself with bleach which would suggest to me that the mental illness probably exists elsewhere in the US administration.

If Mr Biden wins and the USA remains in the Paris agreement the world will be in a much better place.  If Mr Trump gets his way and the US leaves then the rest of the world will have to decide if we wish to continue to support our former friends and allies.  I would dearly like to believe that a global boycott of US products and services might come about if it leaves the climate agreements, but I fear the tentacles of facebook and Microsoft amongst others are too deeply entrenched in the world for that to happen.  The "crazy" people might start to think about another 9/11.  No one wants that, well not anyone decent anyway.

Seriously, the world watches on and we do, honestly, want the best outcome for you.  I fear Mr Trump is not the best outcome.  Ms Harris is at best innocuous.  Mr Biden, I agree, has past it, but I also agree he probably will not be long in office.

She started her Political career working overtime late nights with 60 year olds while in her late 20`s. Look up Willie Brown. They made the news often. Sure she had an education, but she did not need it. During her career San Francisco has become a literal cesspool. That is the last place on earth you should visit. The homeless problem is so bad you have to watch your step. Human feces is not what I want to see being cleaned off the street. California is known in the other 49 states as the land of the fruits and nuts. As most of the people in charge are mentally ill!. And so is a large portion of the general population.

Lineaway, as US citizens we have experienced what happens in the USA.  Others outside the USA may deem they know what is best for the USA or how it rates.

Tuesday shall come and go.  The rest of the world will again say it knows best what the USA needs or will become, while you and I live it.

Those posting here from outside the USA, most have agendas they endorse.  Any misalignment with that agenda creates a situation almost like our politics.  Very divided and often no compromise.

Whilst the citizens of the US undoubtedly have to live with the consequences of their decisions and are also best placed to make that decision the removal of the world's leading nation from the Paris accord affects every single person on the planet.  It also affects the US deeply and profoundly.  As Arizona cooks and gets too hot to raise cattle and other livestock and your forests burn it is clear that climate change is a major issue for the USA.

Seriously, no one much cares what tax you pay and whether or not you treat poor people fairly.  If your Police want to shoot black people then you guys will have to sort that out yourselves.  Honestly, we don't much care beyond having something to laugh/joke/talk about.

We really need you "on team" in the fight against the heating environment.  I am sorry if that means you have to elect a president you see as sub-optimal, but that is how it is.  Trump is a danger to human life if he carries on as he has in the last term.  When he cancelled cafe the small car plants shut down - he has cost US jobs and manufacturing and increased fossil CO2 output.  The world needs a more responsible USA and a more responsible POTUS.

My only "agenda" is survival.  Like everyone on here I love my motorbike and it runs on gasoline.  There will soon come a point where that activity will be under scrutiny and I do not want to lose my right to ride.  Even if the Federal US government takes no action I can see individual states going down the road of stopping or at least limiting motorsport.  Please guys, stay with the mainstream and stick to the Paris agreement, even if you think it is nonsense it is the right thing to do.

Be very careful what you accept as reasons why.  California and other areas have burned, not on account of global warming, but rather local governments have sided with local citizens.  The earth needs to self purge and heal via forests that do catch fire and consume the undergrowth, then reinstill new life.  Local governments have not allowed controlled burns.  When a fire does occur, the burn becomes uncontrolled since there is far to much fuel for the fire.

I appreciate your desire for survival.  However, I understand your desire to ride, but, you can not have it both ways.  Do not preach what you do not accomplish yourself.  Sorry.  Your actions are no different than an environmentalist flying all over to attend meetings or a Sierra Club member wanting every natural area closed but driving to protests in a huge SUV.

Global warming can only be addressed by global action implemented by governments. Me not riding my motorcycle will have zero effect on fossil fuel production. Saying that individuals are at fault for using fossil fuel is nonsense.

As best I understand it this is the #1 excuse given by climate sceptics.  I believe it is also used by the same groups of people in Australia to magic away the issue.

The climate is heating up due to fossil CO2 and all of us are part of that paradigm.  We all want to continue to have the wonderful lifestyle that fossil energy has provided.  The issue therefore is how to generate that energy without fossil hydrocarbons.  If we put our mind to it then it is possible I am sure.  Humans have walked on the moon, spilt the atom and sent probes into deep space.  Generating renewable energy from wind, wave, solar and the like seems pretty easy by comparison.  The first part of the process is simply accepting that we need to do it and to stop making excuses for all the rather obvious effects of the present heating.

I am sure that many local issues contribute to each and every example of the effects of warming.  Nevertheless the cumulative effect of warming is there and real.  It is unproductive to spend time and energy arguing each individual incident, the fact that they have increased is sufficient evidence we need to act.  I'm happy to debate how we act and above all else how those actions keep our wonderful standard of living, but act we must and now.  Now is a bad time to leave the Paris agreement.

The US government, Australian government, Brazilian government and several others don't even accept there is a problem.  They are all voted into power by individuals.  Individuals are at fault one way or another unless you believe in the the state as some sort of super power detached from its citizens.  Perhaps in communist countries like China one can blame the government but in a democracy you get that which you vote for.

That's why I vote for parties that have a strong environmental agenda.

Well the World just had it`s best year fighting fossil co2. It had nothing to do with the Paris accord. It was quite amazing to see it all happening. We went months without seeing a jet trail in the sky. Covid 19 did more to reverse climate change than all the years of bickering about the Paris agreements. Now if China would release the actual deadly version, Mother Earth would heal more quickly than Mankind.

PS. This all happened while I still got to ride whenever I wanted!
