Sonni Posted July 25, 2019 Report Share Posted July 25, 2019 hi everyone, i recently purchased 2012 250 txt pro gasgas. within a few rides the bike is going downhill. when starting the bike it runs fine but there is a white smoke coming from the electrics/thermostat. the fan and lights are not kicking in at all but the bike is running fine. any suggestions? cheers Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
d2w Posted July 25, 2019 Report Share Posted July 25, 2019 If the fan is not running (for whatever reason) the coolant in the rad may be overheating and then escaping past the radiator cap. The rad overflow tube may then direct the coolant onto the header pipe, and this will result in a "white smoke". Basically your'e seeing steam. Verify that your bike is producing a voltage/current. Your comment that the light is not working might imply that it's not. You can test the fan motor by applying 12VDC to it (say, from an automotive battery). You can also test the operation of the thermostat; when immersed in hot water it should "close" and present a near-zero electrical resistance. pjw123 Posted July 27, 2019 Report Share Posted July 27, 2019 Check temp circuit by shorting the 2 thermostat wires with engine running. If fan starts, problem may be with T stat. If fan doesn't start, then Regulator box (small black one) might have given up. Often caused by poor earth. Outer plastic sometimes melts which is a good sign its had it. They are about £25 UK to replace. Worth replacing T stat rubber seal & clip at same time as they deteriorate with time & don't like being disturbed.
