Hi Guys,

So I just picked up a 2005 290 as a bit of a project. So I just got to taking the top end out

and the bolt that was in it was literally just hanging in there, It looks like someone had

tried to drill out the old bolt and made a muck of it. has anyone ever had any success with

using JB weld type product and a heli coil to fix this?

Thanks.

Pics would help.

I've used many helicoils and timeserts, but there has to be enough metal around the hole and, of course, clear access for a drill.

Stuff like JB weld and loctite thread repair are only good for temporary fixes and war times.

The thing about timeserts, etc. is, you have a pilot hole. You don't have this if it's welded up unless your welder is very good and can center a carbon rod in the hole.
