I'm currently running a Gas Gas txt 280 pro Racing with a fly wheel weight and slow throttle but it just wants to run away with you all the while i feel I'm constantly battling with it and holding on I'm looking to change it ASAP for something thats less aggressive can anyone recommend anything I've heard the betas are a little less aggressive?

How long have you been riding a trials bike ?

Do you have mates with trials bikes and experience or a local club ?

Before you get too concerned about changing your bike I suggest you get some advice on setting it up, it may just need the engine tuning and the clutch and brake ‘bite’ points setting up to make it more rideable.

You can quite easily make a softer power by increasing the thickness of the cylinder base gaskets. There may also be a low compression cylinder head available for your model. Both should be relatively low cost and something you can do yourself if you're half mechanically minded. Give John Shirt motorcycles a call as they are the Gas Gas specialists, presuming you're in the uk

Before you change it for something softer, get the ignition timing retarded by about 4mm first.  That is 4mm not 4 degrees.  That will tame it down.  When you become more confident you can get it put back to where it was.

The GG 280 is one of the fieriest bikes on the market. Try a 250 of any make to compare. Lowering the compression will make your 280 quite a bit softer at the bottom so it will not pull off so sharply but you will still have a lot of torque by comparison with a smaller motor. It is not a good place to be, worrying about the bike running away with you. Better to boss a smaller engine and then move up.

Most of my riding buddies and myself included all put a smaller front sprocket on them to slow them, 11T is standard but they make a 10 and a 9.  I use the 10 and it makes a big difference, also makes second and third gears much more usable as well

Putting a smaller front sprocket will indeed slow it down, but at the same time it will actually increase both power and torque!

The ignition timing isn't adjustable on this bike, the stator doesn't have slotted mounting holes.Shame ,it would be a cheap and easy way to calm it down.I suggest if you really like the way it rides other than the power, sell it and get the 250 model
