Air Intake Grilles

Recommended Posts

How are the air intake grilles on an Evo supposed to be fixed? On both of my bikes they were stuck on with hot melt glue so I had assumed that was the factory method. But having just removed them in order to re-fix them properly, they look more like a bodged repair.

Mines an old 09 model, don’t know if newer models are any different, but it seems to just have 4 small locating clip tabs. Twice mine have disappeared during a trial because the spring tabs don’t have enough ‘hold’ to keep it place. I now have small zip ties round the frame, it’s  not pretty, but saves buying new every few weeks !

Yup the hot glue is the factory way. I removed the metal grills and replaced them with door fly mesh which I then super glued into the guard.

I have removed mine completely and replaced with the filter material you fit in cooker extractor hoods - i've also seen pond water filter material used. Cut out in to a triangle type shape - look at the SSDT mods from Beta Racing - and placed on the bike frame, so i place the bodywork down on to it. So no need for any glues, it's breathable, washable, cheap, and does pre-clean the air filter a bit.
