Little background to my problem first.Last year I did a trials tester day at Stuart Day’s and loved it,so much so that I bought one of his old bikes.My thinking behind this was to totally strip it down and teach myself how to put together a bike back together from scratch. Hands up,stupid idea as I’m well in over my skill set.The up side to this silly idea is I now have the knowledge to tackle jobs I wouldn’t have considered before,the downside is I have a bike in a bazillion bits that I’m struggling to reassemble. Just got to reassembling the forks(which I completely stripped down,powder coated and had rechromed )and can’t find any step by step instructions to put the damn things back together again.I did take photo’s as I took them apart and videos but embarrassingly it appears I didn’t do a good enough job. Could anyone please help a complete novice wannabe mechanic with instructions or recommend a fork specialist near Nottingham. Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
Creepytheclutchmaster Posted December 30, 2020 Report Share Posted December 30, 2020 Try watching jimsnells fork rebuild videos on YouTube, most trials forks of that year are very similar. Gasgas, beta, shercos mostly have paioli forks. You will need a oil seal driver thow to make it easier, or you can make one out of 38mm id plastic tubeing. Creepytheclutchmaster Posted December 31, 2020 Report Share Posted December 31, 2020 I think you can do your forks at home no problem mate. The only hard bit with rebuilding your forks is pressing in the oil seal in, unless you have completely stripped the shim stack in the damper and thrown all the shims in a box or something lol. Then it can be abit confusing. You may also need a set of circlip pliers but thay are cheap. Give splatshop a call he might be able to get you a schimatic of the forks or advise you on a suspension specialist. 1 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

The trouble I’m having a the moment is the stanchions have been mixed up and I’m not sure which is left and right,very embarrassing but not something I thought about at the time.I think the left one with the spring is tapered at one end where as the right one seems to be a straight through pipe if that makes sense.
