Gasgas petrol tank expanding

Hi All

The petrol tank on my Gasgas gp 280 has expanded to the point we’re it is almost impossible to get it in.

I was wondering if the 2012 aluminium tank would fit ,it looks to be the same apart from it being a little higher

We’re the fuel cap sits.

Has anyone tried this modification,  I don’t really want to go spending on another plastic tank for it to do the same

Any information would be much appreciated

Cheers

I had the same problem with mine. I found out that the fuel I had been using had ethanol in it and after changing to a non ethanol fuel, the tank over a period of time returned to its original size. Sounds crazy but it's true.[10% ethanol]

Modern Ethanol laced fuel causes all kinds of problems with plastic tanks, O rings, seals ,etc. Solution is to remove the ethanol from  the petrol. Easy to do, as Ethanol readily co mingles with water. Slight downside is that you've got to chuck away the ethanol you've removed .

Check it out on You Tube.

And the fuel you are left with is damn poor stuff, looses about 3 points of octane rating. Best to just buy proper fuel to begin with.
