James Dabill Clocks Up Second British Championship Win

james dabill 2018 british trials championship round 2The 2018 RT Keedwell sponsored ACU British Trials Championship moved on to it's second round of the season this weekend with Westmorland Motor Club playing host.

Consolidating his lead in the Championship standings after his victory at the opening round at Hookwood back in March, it was James Dabill - Beta who dominated proceedings from the start with scores over the opening two laps of two and three respectively. That was to change in the third and final lap, but not just for Dabill with the scores of most of the riders being increased by the conditions after, in a repeat of last year at the same venue, heavy rain arrived. Ultimately it was Dan Peace - Gas Gas who claimed second place by a nine point margin over reigning Champion, Jack Price - Gas Gas.

In the Masters Class Championship, just four riders took part with Ross Danby - TRS taking his second victory of 2018, beating Sam Haslam - Gas Gas into second place by a three mark margin. Vertigo mounted Tom Affleck rounded out the top three in the Masters.

Over in the Expert Championship, Richard Sadler - Beta who is very much on form this season, improved on his second place at the opening round by taking victory by six marks over absolutely, definitely, 100% not a veteran, Dan Thorpe - Gas Gas. It was Thorpe who set the early standard in this class with an impressive opening lap of nine, but a poorer showing on the second lap as conditions deteriorated was to put an end to his hopes of top podium place. Guy Kendrew - Beta made up for just missing out on the podium at the opening round by beating Luke Walker - Sherco into fourth place to claim third.

It was a high scoring event in the Elite Youth Class with no rider ending up on less than one hundred marks. Closest, and winner on the day was Mitch Brightmore - Gas Gas who ended the Trial with a thirty mark margin over Brett Harbud - Beta. Ryan Brown - Beta claimed third spot a further seven marks behind Harbud.

The 2018 British Championship now takes a weekend off before moving on to the third round, the Neath MC St. David's Trial on April 29th.
