Macclesfield Trials Club Results

macclesfield trials clubIt was a miserable start to the last macc trials event of 2014. A heavy shower of rain with a few hailstones mixed in welcomed the riders to a wet and muddy Rough heys Quarry. Twelve sections had been laid out to be ridden 3 times by the near 100 rider entry. The riders had a choice of three routes plus 50/50 so, in theory at least, sections to suit all abilities.

Josh Woods had a cracking ride to lose just 13 marks to take the premier award and 20 Club Championship (Kelcoat) points. Josh was some way clear of his closest rival Danny Butler.More of a contest was on the cards on the 50/50 hard /middle route, with Will Emmott out for only the second time on his new Gas Gas, just pipping Sam Clarke by 2 marks to take best Int. Both riders had excellent rides through the difficult section 11 which was a series of tight turns and climbs over and around a slippery rocky gully. Not fairing as well on section 11, was factory Kev (Hipwell) with a score of 13 but he more than made up for it by dropping just 9 more on all of the other 11 sections combined.

On the middle route, it was the older bikes with older riders onboard who showed the entry how it should be done . With Rod Bowyer on his Pre65 losing just 8 (which included a 5 on section 5) taking best Over 40 . Meanwhile in the over 50 class Andy Hipwell on his Majesty recorded a loss of just 10 to take best in class . Best Youth C was Tom Shepherd and Best youth B was Scott Hipwell.

The Paul Glendenning memorial shield was presented to the club after the sad and sudden death at an early age of club stalwart Paul by his partner Teagan. The shield is won for the best adult performance on the 50/50 Middle /easy route - the route which Paul rode. This year that rider was Dave Butler. Dave finished some way clear of second and third place riders Dougie Greenall and Bill Brown . Dave excelled on the slippery sections 3 and 4 dropping less than half the marks of his rivals. TTS Vans (whom Paul was connected with) also donated special awards to the best Adult and Youth riders on the easy route. This year these were Simon Clarke and Josh Taylor.
