Walsall MCC Summer Midlands Championship

Like so many this year this turned out to be a mixed weather trial, fine to start and wet to finish. However the weather did not deter the 23 riders who rode the normal format of ten sections four times. The brand new section over some large logs was pronounced a good addition to the venue, though it looked more daunting than it turned out to be. The course setters found an easy route for clubmen and novice riders so only experts lost marks there.

Andrew Bolton riding a Beta, as his ancient Yamaha is awaiting a wheel rebuild, won the Expert class on 50 with Tom Hanks from the Sutton Coldfield club close behind on 59. The Clubman class was won by John Somerfield, also from the Sutton Coldfield club, on 51. Christopher Dean from Gresford Classic was second on 55 with Barry Boustead and Simon Lythgoe both on 57. Had Barry not missed section 2 three times he would probably have been a clear third. He was third but only on most cleans.

The Novice class was won by Dan Mayneord with a loss of 13. Most of these were on section 1 which he failed to master on the first two laps. This was the section that took most marks from both Novice and Clubman riders. Gary Ankritt was second on 23 and Bruce Bolton third on 27.

Three of the six riders who started on the beginners White route finished. Richard Scott on 4 and Ivor Webb on 7 but the most improved rider was young Jak Hanks who had two 5s and two 1s to finish third on 12.

Thanks to Walsall Motocross members who turned out to observe and see what trials are about.
