Dan Peace On top Again At Scarborough

Whilst Saturday saw thDan Peace At 2014 British Youth AB Championship Round 3 - Scarborough 2Dan Peaceeir younger counterparts battle it out at Scarborough’s Low North Camp, Sunday was also to play host to British Championship Trials with the Luscombe Suzuki Youth A&B and Ladies Championships both marking their third round of the 2014 season.  Although there had been little rain since Friday night, conditions on Sunday were still very slippery and the sections were certainly not laid out to be easy.

In a high-scoring A Class Championship clash, very much on-form Dan Peace – JST Gas Gas repeated his win of Shropshire just two weeks previously with a nine point margin over second placed Tom Hooper – RCM MRS Sherco.

Peace got off to a solid start, dropping just four points up to the tenth section where he saw his first five of the day. Recovering from that, he cleaned the eleventh, but picked up another five on what looked like an impossible twelfth section – a real sting in the tail from the Scarborough club. Hooper, on the other hand did not get off to the best of starts with four successive fives on sections eight through eleven putting him very much in catch-up mode with his opening lap score double that of Peace’s fourteen.

Toby Martyn At 2014 British Youth AB Championship Round 3 - Scarborough 4Toby MartynPeace again rode steadily through the second lap, repeating his first lap score of fourteen, putting him on twenty eight with one lap remaining. Hooper improved, but picked up fives on sections he’d got through for less on his previous visit to put him twenty points behind with just the final lap to go. With the pressure on and a lot of catching up to do, Hooper certainly upped his game on the closing lap, turning in the best lap score of the day – just seven points, whilst Peace dropped back slightly to score eighteen, but with his advantage over the first two laps, the challenge from Hooper was too little, too late. Third place in the A Class went to Tom Minta – MRS Sherco who deserves special mention for being the only rider all day who actually managed to clean the twelfth section.

Whilst the A Class was a high scoring Trial, the top end of the B class was the exact opposite. Top honours went to Toby Martyn – RCM Beta who dropped just three points over the day, two on his first lap and a single dab on his third. Jack Peace – JST Gas Gas also turned in an impressive ride. His lap scores of four on his opening lap and, again, just a single dab on the final visit saw him finish just two points behind Martyn with third placed Sam Yeomans – Kelcoat JST Gas Gas a further two points behind on seven.
