Fresh from his winning return to the competitive scene long serving Red Bull athlete Dougie Lampkin adopted a teaching role last week, when he headed up the instructing team at his annual Master Class - Summer Trials School. This year's school took place at the infamous Addingham moorside venue just outside Dougie's hometown of Silsden. Now in its fifteenth successive year, Dougie's school once again welcomed riders from far and wide, of all abilities and ages to share in the experience and knowledge that netted Lampkin no less than twelve FIM Trial World titles during his extended and decorated career.
Dougie was joined by four times British Trials Champion and World Championship contender James Dabill, 2011 FIM Youth Trial World Champion and Suffolk's finest export Jack Sheppard and his own father and 1975 FIM Trial World Champion Martin Lampkin to offer unrivalled trials tuition to over fifty riders from the length and breadth of the UK and beyond. The cross section and diversity of the participants was illustrated with riders from five years old up to sixty years old on a mixture of electric bikes, modern trials machines and even the odd Pre-65 model enjoying the occasion.
Downhill mountain bike World Champion and trials fan Steve Peat took his place amongst the assembled riders each day and showed that his pedaling skills adapt well to the motorised sport as he impressed onlookers with some outstanding rides in the elite group. A special mention must be given to Dominic Coleman who flew back in from his place of work in the Middle East to take part in his tenth consecutive school, and who is always a welcomed source of amusement for his fellow trials trainees.
Riders were welcomed to the trials school each morning before being given a short briefing about the structure of the day ahead. The riding got underway with the instructors initially evaluating the ability of each rider before then splitting them off into two main groups. Each group of riders then enjoyed two full hours of training during the morning session before breaking for a well-earned lunch stop. Under the 
guidance of new instructors, having now swapped over groups, the eager participants were further put through their paces with another two hour session before the action was rounded off by an awe inspiring demonstration by James Dabill.
Each day was brought to a close with all the riders receiving certificates of achievement from the star studded array of instructors, plus special awards being given to those participants that had shown the most progress each day. Following the final applause the words of thanks and praise came flowing in as Lampkin and his fellow instructors signed a succession of autographs before bidding their pupils a safe and final farewell.
Lampkin summed up the occasion by saying. "The trials school is always a great opportunity to put something back into the sport and to share what I have learned over the years with riders of all abilities both young and old. Once again we have had a really great bunch of riders who have worked their socks off and who have really benefitted from the teaching that was on offer."
"There is nothing better than seeing a rider's face light up as they clean a section that perhaps they would not normally have tackled if they had been training on their own. I just hope that they can take away what they have learnt and put it into action at their next trial. I want to sign off by thanking all the riders and instructors who have taken part this year and to say that I hope they will be back with us again next summer."
