Simon Welch wins John Draper Trial

cheltenham home guardSimon Welch won the The John Draper trial by a narrow 2 point margin from Kurt Brain at the Cheltenham HomeGuard event on Sunday 27th Oct.  The experts managed to cope with the extremely wet and muddy conditions on the Welsh / English border with Simon and Kurt losing 23 and 25 points apiece.  However the conditions were very tough for the other classes and around half the clubmen entry retired.  Nathan Pekala won the clubman / expert route on 64 points and Martin Jones won the clubman route on 63 points.  There were some very good rides by three youth B riders on the day.  Toby Martin and Tom Minta, both visitors to the centre, were 3rd and 4th respectively on the expert route.  Special praise to Callum Colbourne, a Western Centre resident, who was 2nd, beating all the usual suspects, on the clubman route.
