Yorkshire Classic Championship rounds 7 and 8 - Greenhow

yorkshire classic mccThe annual two day gathering took place at the old lead mines at Greenhow last weekend. This was the second time it had been a double header of Championship events so a full 40 points were up for grabs in each class. 48 riders on Saturday was well up on last year and 76 riders were chasing the points on Sunday making a record entry for the Club's two day event.

Tim Pawson, Duncan MacDonald and Andy Scott headed the team picking the sections getting soaked to the skin on Friday in the process. Ten sections were ridden four times on Saturday extended to three laps of fifteen on day two.

The venue is known for the quality of its stream sections and the organisers took full advantage with the majority threatening to wet the feet after Friday's rain. Saturday turned out fine but cool but Sunday was warm and still and the midges came out to play much to the dismay of the observers.

the overall best performances over the two days went to Tony Calvert losing just the one mark with John Maxfield ending runner up on 2. Nigel Greenwood came in 3rd having lost only 5 one mark better than George Emmott.

Geoff Walker topped the Clubmen on the older rider rule beating Eric Boocock at the post both with excellent rides with Gordon Imrie topping class T from Colin Benson by 3 marks

It had been a first class event at a top class venue and the club was thanked by the entry for putting on such a good show not only with the sections but the BBQ and the evening's entertainment.
