James Dabill's clean sweep of victories in the 2018 RT Keedwell sponsored British Trials Championship came to an end today as Toby Martyn - Montesa notched up his first Championship Class victory at the seventh round, hosted at the Bob MacGregor Trials Academy in Ayrshire, Scotland. In wet and very slippery conditions, Martyn ended the Trial with a two mark lead over second place Jack Peace - Gas Gas with Championship leader, Dabill - Beta managing to claw back from a poor opening lap performance to secure himself third place.
It was reigning Champion, Jack Price - Gas Gas who set the early running, being the only rider to record a single figure score for his opening visit to the twelve section lap, but the second lap was to prove his downfall as his score jumped to twelve whilst the other top contenders all recorded low single figures. Fighting back on the third and final lap, Price recorded his best score of six for the lap, but it wasn't to be enough and he lost out on a most-cleans tie break for fourth place to Dan Peace - Gas Gas.
Today's results, with Dabill finishing third and Price fifth, means there is a twenty six point margin between the two in the overall Championship standings. With just twenty points up for grabs in tomorrow's final round, James Dabill is 2018 British Trials Champion.
In the Expert Class, James Fry - Sherco recorded his first win of the season by a five mark margin over Richard Sadler - Beta. However, with a twenty five point lead in the Championship standings over second place Guy Kendrew - Beta who only managed seventh place today, Sadler cannot now be beaten and is 2018 Expert Champion. Third place today in the Expert Championship went to Luke Walker - Sherco.
The Youth Elite class saw young Mitch Brightmore - Gas Gas win his fifth round of the season with a commanding victory by forty marks over second placed Gus Oblien. Brightmore isn't quite there yet though as mathematically he can still be beaten, but he just has to finish in any position at the final round tomorrow to ensure himself of the Youth Elite title. Brett Harbud - Beta rounded out the podium positions in the Youth Elite Class, taking third place.
