Toni Bou (Montesa Cota 4RT) has increased his legendary status by winning this Sunday his seventh World Outdoor Trial Champion title and equalling the results of Jordi Tarrés and Dougie Lampkin in this event in the past. To these seven titles, all consecutive, Toni Bou adds the same number in the indoor modality, becoming the most awarded rider in the history of motorcycle trials. Born in Piera (Barcelona) on 17 October 1986, the plurichampion achieved all these successes riding a Montesa bike, manufacturer he began to ride for in 2007.
Toni Bou ended the 39th edition of the World Trials Championship winning an exciting second day of the French Grand Prix, which decided the title, and in which he came up from the fourth position obtained at the end of the first of its three laps. The Montesa rider has been the only rider to achieve a podium position in the thirteen events of the championship. Today was Bou's seventh victory in the current season, which added to that of Takahisa Fujinami on second day of the Japanese Grand Prix, have raised Montesa´s record of victories in outdoor world championship events to 169 and given them their sixteenth manufacturer´s title, the last eight being both consecutive and riding Cota 4RT bikes.
Toni Bou: “Of all the world championship titles I have achieved, this has been the one that needed the greatest effort. The new non-stop rules made me change my riding style and I have gradually began to feel better under the new conditions. Once again, Montesa Cota 4RT bikes, the team and the work carried out have been fundamental to end this championship in the best manner, overcoming very tough moments. Now, after revalidating the title, I feel delighted, immensely happy”.
Takahisa Fujinami: “It's been a great weekend for Toni and the team, as they achieved their goals and this makes me feel happy for them. But for me it's been a disaster. Things didn't turn out as I expected yesterday or today and I lost the third position in the championship classification. I feel very disappointed”.
