Conditions were dry and dusty and a strong wind also played its part at the Pegasus MC & LCC's Arden Trophy Trial, held over 5 laps of 9 sections, at Harston. Following on from his success at the recent Royal Wedding Day Trial Tom Ablewhite mastered the conditions aboard his Sherco to clinch the main award. It was at section 3 where observer Gail Tuley recorded 12 of Tom's total of 26. At the end of the day it turned out to be a relatively comfortable victory from runner-up Glen Daniels on 61. Youth A competitor Dan Tuley was next best aboard his Gas Gas beating several regular top hard route riders.
On the middle route it was the Damar Evo mounted Youth B/C competitor Ashley McWeeney who showed the adults the way dropping just 2 marks to win the route. The battle of the Over 40 riders, in the Cambs Trials Centre supported championship, went the way of Newark's Paul Smart on 7, followed by Andy Butt and the first of the four stroke riders Graham Swaby. Maximum points in the Cambs Trial Centre Novice championship went to Mark Awcock, Beta. This was Mark's best ride to date on his new Evo, dropping 23 in total, with next best Novice, namely Stewart Dickinson, Montesa, on 57.
It was the three Pre 65 riders who ruled the roost on the white route. Andrew Frith proved that his finish in the recent Scottish 2 day Classic was no fluke as he wrestled his James around clean on 8 of the 9 section. Section 7 was his only problem and he dropped all of his 6 marks here. Shaun Brown and Geoff Gadsby were next best on 12 and 13 respectively. Gary Skipworth put in yet another good performance to be named best Adult Beginner on 14. This was just 2 marks better than Michael Smalley who we were pleased to see make a good comeback after having a hip replacement operation.
