After overnight rain, 44 riders arrived at Foxholes under the threat of further downpours, which thankfully never materialised. The stream, which had to be cleared of several fallen trees, was very slippery, with its moss covered rocks ready to punish the slightest error. Youth C, D and Novices kept to the top end of the stream, and had some additional sections to themselves to provide 4 laps of 10. Youth A, B, Experts and Inters entered the stream down the steep sides to section 11, and worked their way up to the open area at 5. These lads rode 3 laps of 12. The remaining sections in the wood soon dug out, the dry soft soil revealing additional rocks and roots.
A class and Experts started on section 11, with its tight turns and short approaches requiring careful positioning and “front wheel on” technique to master. No cleans here, but Bradley Cox and A class winner Tom Dexter both had dabs. A new section, number 6 was a stopper, with its steep loose climb round a tree. Tom, and runner up Luke Walker were best A’s with twos, whilst Expert winner Craig Robinson had the only clean, on lap 2. Dec Bullock came 3rd in the A’s, with Bradley Cox 4th. Rob Harries was 2nd Expert.
B class riders started on section 7, a rock step at an awkward angle, followed by a camber up and round a tree. Winner Sam Yeomans, riding up a class on an 80, started the day with a five, while runner up Dominic Feaks had a dab, the same as Inter winner Mick Boam. Everyone else was threes and fives this lap. Sam bounced straight back with dabs on sections 8 and 9, to take the lead. And so it went all day, trading scores. Curtis Fitzsimmons was 3rd, coming back from injury. Mick Boam was doing a fine job showing the youngsters how to ride non-stop through the sections, with 2nd Inter Stephen Douglas looking a little rock rusty to begin with.
Toby Martyn was again runaway C class winner. Fred Bailey beat Danyon Hume in the Youth Novices, the reverse of last time out. Carl Dickinson will be pleased to have beaten Andy Land in the Adult Novice class. Daniel Slack took a convincing win in the D class, from William Stansbie and Sam Land .
