11 June 2011 - The Oset Cup is motoring along at full speed if today’s turnout is anything to go by. With 17 riders tackling six sections, three times each, the entry at Dave Emmots farm in Silsden had to be divided into two groups to make sure the fledgling riders were finished before bedtime.
The event saw the youngsters facing some challenging and varied sections designed to develop their riding skills. Steep hill climbs and descents, tight turns and manoeuvring their bikes over small obstacles were all included.
The 4th round of the Championship was supported and observed by Yeadon Guiseley Club Chairman, Mike Jennings and training officer for The Yorkshire centre Phyllis Stevenson.
Bathed in glorious Yorkshire sunshine, Mike said: “The club whole heartedly supports the E-Class riders and the inaugural Oset Cup. We’ve had the biggest turnout to date with 17 youngsters riding. This is a fantastic achievement and demonstrates the growing popularity and increasing demand for events suitable for electric bikes. We have some cracking young riders and the championship is hotting up for quite literally an electric finale.”
As Henry Stephenson took the top honours, it was a proud grandma and observer, Phyllis who said: “Watching the next generation of trials riders really going for it was great. Everyone had a lovely day and of course I’m delighted for Henry. With his dad and granddad both riding it’s no surprise that he’s followed suit.”
First place in the 12.5 class was awarded to Charlie Crossland on 19, Myles Hutchinson achieved second on 29 and in tight battle for third Alexander Horne and Morgan Shepherd tied on 35.
The 16” championship has seen a number of riders progress from the smaller 12.5” bike. The top three 16” riders were separated by only two marks. Talented Henry Stephenson took first place, dropping only 5 marks and it was an unlucky Harry Mugridge in second who dropped just 6. The pair were closely followed by Joshua McParland on 7.
Rider of the Day was awarded by Mike Jennings to Charlie Crossland, who impressed the club chairman when he tackled the entire 'difficult’ course on his 12.5” bike.
The next round will take place on Saturday 9th July at Ian’s Rocks, Norwood Top, nr Menwith Hill. Anyone interested in more information please contact David Horne on 07717 705 791 or email This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
