General Trials Talk

General discussion on the sport of Observed Motorcycle Trials

I had a prob wih my 315r clutch dragging. From great advice from you all i now have a drag free ride. However i tried new and lighter oil which made no difference, checked the plates and discs for wear, replaced them with newer ones, but still the problem stayed with me. I took the following advice but only to a ratio of 5:2 and could not believe the difference. Well pleased!!! Hope this is a help to fellow sufferers!!!!!! "The stock clutch has 4 cork plates and 3 friction plates. The friction plates allow the clutch to be "slipped" more and gives it a very broad engagement point. All the Team Montesa riders (Dougie, Fuji, Chris Florin) use the stock clutch. They use a…

Given the age-old problems of club trials is that there are never enough people to observe ? What about using technology to allow you to run that 2-lap 20 secion trial you've also wanted to. The topic started in the pub last night and I've made some notes on my web pages about the two options (as I see it) in looking at technology. Interested in any feedback you have or if anyone has already tried this. I want to run some practical experiments in the near future.....

I always enjoy Mike's forum. I also enjoy shirties comments and the posts some of the the top riders put on their own web sites linked from TC. As an idea would it be interesting to have a forum where these influential people could post their comments (or duplicate what they put on their own home pages) and be the only people to open up a new topic, we all could comment but not start a new thread. Would give us riders, organizers and spectators and chance to see what the riders and importers are saying in one focused area and allow us a chance to respond. Anybody any thoughts

After much discussion the decision has been taken to cancel the Lakes 2 Day Trial. Despite restrictions on cattle movement etc being eased, many of these changes will not come into place in time for us to gain access to the land in time to organise an event of a standard that we would be happy with. This has been a very difficult decision to make but our relationship with the landowners has to be the priority. We apologise to all those who, like us , were looking forward to another great weekend in the Lakes All cheques sent for entry fees will be shredded. We thank you for your patience and understanding and assure you that we will make the 2008 event even more sp…

So anyway ,rewind a bit to talk of falling entry numbers at trials and the influx of young riders . Well , i've done three trials in the Northwest of England in two weeks .There's been over seventy riders at each . That's a decent turnout . A good mix of age's and a few ladies too . I half expected thirty or so . What's the attendance like where you are ? Ted.

For Wurth. Yesterday, despite being in the process of re-fitting their local store here and having no stock at all, they organised the collection today from Romford of 2 cans of chain lube and the hand delivery to my door just now. How's that for service? Credit where it's due. They were some of the nicest, most can-do bunch of people it's been my pleasure to meet recently. And they followed through with what they promised to do. Bunch of stars.

Playing with my other toy today, noticed that the throttle will stick open, but only while the bike is running, switch engine off and the throttle will snap back perfectly, done this every-time. Cleaned and checked every-thing, (twist-grip and cable are new and oiled, as is the handle bar end clean of any grime) and noticed that the slide and the inside of the carb (1988 Amal) has scour marks, do you think that this could be sticking with the air-flow from air-box to the cylinder ? Can carburettors be re-built or would it be more cost effective to buy a new one ? Gaff.

I keep hearing that the montesa 4rt (even tho it did badly in the indoor champs) will clean up when the outdoor champs start ,is this and educated guess or does someone know something we dont. This here in front of us is a questionaire for honest Montesa 4RT owners. 1:Do you ride any better. 2:Is it easier to ride. 3:Is it easier to live with. 4:What was your previous trials bike. 5:Does it feel lighter/heavier than your previous bike. 6:would you buy another one 7: Is 4 stroke better than 2 stroke Remember honesty is always the best policy

I'd just like to say thank you to Ryan and his team for their excellent service. I ordered some parts from his website Ryan Young Website and for various reasons, including a slightly over zealous bank thinking my card had been stolen and cancelling the whole thing, the order turned into a bit of a mare, with several mind changes on my part. Ryan and his team gave me excellent customer service, patiently exchanging emails, sending me photographs and offering advice. I must have driven him mad, which was not my intention. So i would thoroughly recommend Mr Young and his team and say thanks again for bearing with me.

Right then......... i apologise for another 'which bike' topic by me, but everytime i find a bike its gone before i manage to get some advice !! Bike i had lined up has been dismissed for various reasons... Buying my first bike........Money getting warm but not quite burning a hole in my pocket........Although give it a week or so........ :hyper: Ive decided on either a Sherco 125/250 (heard 290 too vicious for a newbie) or a Scorpa 250 Im 15st, ive had 125 road bikes, ridden trials experience days, motocross experience days, xc and downhill mountain bike Which would you most recommend ?? (PS. no beta or Gas Gas for me, i dont like them aesthetically ) Cheers
