my name is dave and i have just bought an aprilia 280 climber 1992. got a couple of issues with it. hope someone on here can help. it will only run on choke. as soon as you drop the choke off the revs die an dit wont tick over an the bike cuts out as if its getting no fuel. runs and pulls well on choke. been told its an air leak in the rubber pipe that attatches the carb to the engine? i have a spare one of hese and a whole host of other spares inculding a virtually complete engine. does anyone think that it is just the pipe or is ther another under lying problem????????????????

Hi all, I have tasked myself with getting my dad's old Montesa Cota 247 running and riding again. The bike was bought years ago and spent most of it's time in his shed collecting dust. I dragged it out a few years ago and kicked it over, kicks over fine but would not start. I put it back with a promise to try get it going again. So that day came today, got it back out. Both tyres are flat and it needs some work. We are going to try get her running and riding again and then strip it down and make it look like new This is the bike in current form So checked the oil, looks OK, kicked it over a few times and everything seems to be free. I removed the HT lead an…

Why can I NEVER be happy? Started out riding (or at least TRYING to ride!) trials last year with a TY250. Too heavy, but a beautiful bike, so found a TY175. Love how light and stong it is. Until I spotted a Can-Am 350! My first bike was a Can-Am MX-1 and have a T'nt and MX bike once again. Please stop me and tell me I am an idiot. The TY is so pretty and nice. The Can-Am would look totally different than all the other bikes. And my riding skills are still in the learning/falling process, so maybe I should just have two bikes?!?! Hope my wife never finds this site! Love going slow and glad a friend talked me out of the MX dream and into trials. Have been very …

Hi there, Found this fantastic website today. I am quite impressed with the information that has been submitted in the forums. I started riding TY175's here in Australia when they first came out in 1975 with the TY175B. I have owned quite a few over the years and now currently own 6 TY175's of which 2 are TY175JC's. I look forward to contributing to the forums in the future.

Hi I just bought an well used (maybe too well used) 2002 Beta rev3, and a van to move it around. The idea being "try it and see" I am joining the berkhamstead MCC, and will ride whenever i can. I have plenty of mid week time. Please let me know if you are anywhere near W2, or practice at Nash Mills midweek and would not mind a skill-less tagger.

  13. good morning everyone, I am in mid Bedfordshire, which having looked around various forums does not appear to be a trials hot spot but never mind, having finally decided to finish my 65 tiger cub project which has been on and off for 30 years , passed over by many other bike and car restorations, can anyone give me some information regarding clearance of rear wheel and chain guard to swinging arm, I have a Sammy Miller widened swinging arm, and chain guard, rear sprocket spacer, and rear tyre is 4.00x18 , what I would like to know is what the actual distance you all have between chain guard and tyre, and between the tyre and frame on both sides, any information would be…

Hi all, After a period of absence of around 5 years, my little people are starting to grow up now and I've decided its time to get back on the mechanical horse again. For those of you long enough in the tooth to go back that far, I used to be "Kinky Boots" back then I took my kids and my other half to watch their first trial up at the West Leeds club trial at Skyrakes yesterday, and they all loved it. My little boy has already had me marking out a section in the street for him to ride around on his little push bike! Great to be back in the community again.

Hello everyone, Bought myself a Montesa Cota 247 project yesterday and joined the site today. I've found loads of handy advice already. The bike was being sold as an Ulf Karlson replica but I was dubious about that. It also has the odd distinction of the rear brake and gear levers being on the left. The frame number 21M3454 is 1971 when the brake was on the left and gears on the right. I'm guessing the frame and engine numbers should match. If so this suggests the engine (21M21916) is from a 1976 when the gears were on the left, hence the strange lever set-up. It ain't no Karlson rep. I'll tart her up a bit and ride her anyway. Here she is

My google searches for information kept pointing me here, so I thought I'd better get involved! I am rebuilding my dad's Bultaco Sherpa which he had planned to do himself, but unfortunately he died unexpectedly a few months ago. Apart from the Sherpa I have a few Greeves trials bikes (I am on the Greeves Riders Association committee) and also ride a Royal Enfield 350 Bullet on occasions. I hope to find some help here for my Bultaco project, and of course if I can offer any assistance in return then I'd love to.

Hello I just bought a 250 Alpina (1974), no fenders, no electricity, few spokes broken but running engine. Of course, I will need some advices and feedbacks from this forum: First subject will be the seals for the crankshaft. I did in the past few bikes , and riding every day my 175KE (1976), I know my project will need months (probably years). I live near Princeton (NJ USA), Thank you

Hello; Been off my bike for a coupla years - ow! my knees - my back ! Was up at the Scottish and bought a new pair of Hebo's last year. Had to break them in.... Anyway, the auld Pinkie still runs but I've had a senior moment. I can't remember what the bloody mix is ! I thought 25:1 My mate reckons it's something daft like 30'ish :1 elsewhere on the 'net I've seen 50:1 mentioned. But the chainsaw runs 50:1 and I reckoned the Yam engine would need a damn sight more lubing than a chainsaw ! I don't remember ever using my chainsaw mix......So here I am. One thing is fer sure : I'm running too lean at 25:1 Whit a reek ! Mind you the pinky still runs fi…
