How Can You Repair...

Featured Replies

gear lever or the kickstart come to think about it but mainly the gear lever .

you see its rounding on me.

i have used already a screw whiched worked for a while

and now i wonder if i should drill through the lever and shaft

and bolt it?

what does anyone think?

cheers now

andy bone.

Errrrrrrrrrr.................How about putting a new Gear Lever or Kick Starter shaft in

Netter than a bodge that you're suggesting

Not difficult with a workshop manual

replacement much the preferred option and the only long term thing to do

but if your skint or lack the time at the moment, whip the lever off and take a needle file to the gooves of the shaft to make them deeper or even recreate them

then take the bolt out of the lever and file about a mm larger gap between the ' jaws' so that the lever nips up tighter

bolt it all back togehter with a new bolt on the lever ( for new read straight and with its thread in good nick) should last until you buy new,,,,,, mines done 18 months so far..

cheers for your advice/

a needle file would be a good start

but i never thought about reducing the gap though

nice one

i am always pretty skint truth be told

however even if i had loads of spare cash i would always

try and repair everything- not only are you saving the planet

but you see exactly how something works.

i ride old ty`s my latest is a pinky

and what i lack in sleek power and finesse

i gain with sheer courage and determination brrrrmmmm!!!!!

cheers again

i`m away out to the shed to fix my pinky!

drill a small hole with the kickstart in place from the side through one of the joints of the spline. now with the kickstart removed weld a piece of rod such as a piece of nail the same size as the hole to the shaft where you drilled half a hole.
