Montesa 200?

Featured Replies

Hi, Ive just bought a old Montesa to add into my collection of bikes but im unsure of the engine size and the year of the bike. Does anyone know anywhere that i can find out by the frame/engine numbers? they match and just incase anyone is so kind to do it for me they are, 29M02713 .... I know someone has literally just asked this question but the reply is all numbers beginning with 21M :banana2: that made me double check and mine is definately 29M. many thanks.

If you have bought a Cota 200 then the engine cc is 175, I used to own one, other than that I'm afraid I can't help.

29M denotes a Cota 200.

I haven't found production dates for them yet, but with other models

1500 or so per year was normal, so well into the second year.

I believe they started coming out in late '80 as '81 models, so I'd guess

yours is an '82.

Is anyone here that was there?

Does yours have the full width front hub or a single sided one? Full width is earlier Montesa (81-83) single side is HRC/Montesa (84-) Early models had an aluminium tank covered by the fibreglass tank/set unit, later ones had a one piece f/glass tank and seat. Thats all I can tell you from the two bikes and spare engine I have kicking around.............
