May 21, 200719 yr Hi,can anybody help? Just drained the oil, or should i say tried to drain the oil from my 2000 2.9 sherco. removed the drain plug NOTHING removed the filler plug STILL NOTHING, then while i'am sat there scratching my chin, this thick white goo comes ooozzzing out of the drain hole. I left it overnight to drain,flushed with petrol gave it a good swish about and drain again still lots of white sluge, flush again running clean.Bike new to me,oil been in about 20 hours use.Help
May 21, 200719 yr Mayonnaise An emulsion of oil and water Oil and water don't mix? They do if you whisk or beat them together repeatedly, like with a train of gears, especially with modern high detergent oils. Your gearbox has had a drink of water, possibly by lying the bike down in a stream whilst the engine is hot, the chillling causes water to be sucked up the (submerged) breather into the box, or the water pump is leaking coolant into the gearbox, either way it doesn't take much to make mayonnaise. There may be a hole under the waterpump in the side casing that should be kept clear, this allows a leaking pump to vent water into the atmosphere / onto your boot. Clean this out with a paper clip or similar. Not sure if 2000 bikes had this feature or were the precursor to it. It would have been better if you'd flushed the box out with paraffin or diesel, but if you're still typing everything must be ok. Use a good quality oil in there, change it after 2 trials, keep an eye on the coolant level (difficult I know, and easy to overfill) and keep your fingers crossed, you might never have the problem again. May 21, 200719 yr Author Mayonnaise,can't think of a better word, last time out it did nothing but rain, did about six hours, with a bit of stream.Gonna change oil, radiator still full so maybe sucked some water up the breather. Thanks,their seems so much to learn about these amazing machines.
May 22, 200719 yr If you are not playing submarine with the bike, be sure the tranny vent us routed up, then down, like over the fuel inlet to the carb(between them) then down to the skidplate level. Watch the coolant level closely as an indication of a pump seal internal leak as yours probably does not have the weep hole.
