Can you help , did anyone other than Sammy Miller make a nickel [or chrome] plated frame for the 250 Bultaco Sherpa 198 series ?

can post a picture later , but just wondering as I know Mike Whitlock did make frames for the TY's & RL Suzukis , did he ever build a Bultaco frame or was this always Sammy's business.

I seem to recall that Wasp did a Bulto frame but not sure what model. There was definitely another one but I just can't bring the name to mind, though I can see the photo of it in my mind, over to you Big John?

Steve Wilson also had some frames and swingarms made but chances of finding one of these now is remote

Robin Rhind-Tutt (Wasp manufacturer) did make a series of frame kits for the Sherpa, one of which was ridden in the SSDT by Arthur Headland, that was about 1970/71. I also think George Greenland ran one as well.

Yes, Steve Wilson made a kit and for later models a square section swinging arm kit, Steve made his variant about 1976/77 from memory.

I have and ride( baddly) the original Steve Wilson Bultaco - square section s/arm, chrome frame etc. Petrol in frame and fuel under seat etc.

There is quite a lot of history with the bike - I have ridden it in quite a few trials lately and qyuite a few will have seen it at the SM rounds with me.

It is excellent in some sections - not so clever in others ( could be rider?) I did a lot of work motorwise - but the rest is as Steve built it.

I lent it to him a few years ago and he rode it in a Classic or Miller round - it came back in much better condition than it went so he is always welcome to borrow it ( he gave me a bollocking for not changing s/arm bushes)

It is a credit to the man the way he built it - and I believe JCM may have looked at it for ideas.

If somene asks I will tryu to post a photo - or get someone who knows how to fdo that to do so.

Just had the final "confirmation" from Sammy Miller himself and my frame IS one of his Hi-Boys , now upwards-n-onwards with

the re-fit , list long as my arm but least Daves got all the parts needed to get her well sorted ...not sure about my fitness though , should

be a right laugh , last trial I did was with the Southampton Vikings at Andovers old wooded area know as "The Plantations" way back in the

'80's !

John - I'm asking. I would very much like to see a photo. As my brother has our photos from those days I can't dig out the one I'm sure was taken at the time.

Further to the original question I am still tryng to remember the other one I am thinking of. I want to say a Firefly by John (?) Lee but am not so sure he covered the Bultaco. I have no doubt that Jon Bliss would have done a one-off too.

where did you get Steve Wilson bike from ?

my dad had a bike just like you describe for a while . It was a 325 with chrome frame, box section swinging arm, tank under the seat and it a few neat touches such as a longer kick start shaft so the pedal didnt catch the frame by the footrest. It was also fitted with an amal rather than bing carb and was finished with black and white plastics.

Sounds like same bike Baldilocks. Not sure who I originally bought it off - as I have bought and sold hundreds if not thousands of them in 35 years as Bult specialist.

I know I sold it quite a few times ( as you do when money is tight) but always managed to buy it back - strangely usually for more money than I sold it for !

Some years ago I said enough is enough ( will sell TV or something instead if needs be) - and have kept it ever since - and always will.

Sometimes I use it quite regulary and other times it can sit for about 6 months or longer.

It is probably due for a spray job on tank etc about now - but intend to get a few more rides in this year
