Leamington Victory Group Trial 13th Jan.

The home team convincingly won the first round of the 2008 Midland Centre Group trials series with 1031 points to reigning champions Stratford's 1016 with Dudley third on 991.

The much expected heavy rain which had been forecast all week, did it's best to make the trial a particularly tough one and indeed scores were on the high side with Ross Danby taking the win on with 23 marks lost from Richard Allen on 28 and Buster Reagan on 32.

Mark Hicken was fourth and the best Stratford rider loosing 33 marks from Andy Paxton on 38 and John Cowley next on a high 43 marks lost.

In an event which really benefited early numbers, the home team riders made the most of their early starting positions with Ali Haigh taking the 'easy' B route honours on 26 marks lost from Phil Ducker on 28.

The wet muddy conditions were at their worst at the Dobbo's bank sections where the majority of the B route fived the first section. Leamington's Kirby Bennett riding number two, was by far the best here loosing just a solitary mark which was a superb ride in the ever worsening conditions.

With the river crossing far too deep the fourth Group of sections near Alvechurch had to be abandoned, but quick thinking by the organisers saw riders tackle two laps of Rowney Green instead of one, before heading to Mockley Wood to complete the event.

Ross Danby showed why he was runner up in both the World Youth Championship and the European 125 championship runner by cleaning the muddy climbs and cambers of Mockley Wood, the only A route rider to do so to finish on 23 marks lost.

The next round of the series will be at Kinlet on 27th January.

Great report and not that I am biased or anything but Ross is the dogs danglies in the mud

Its a complete mystery to me how he gets grip in those sections

Looking at his score of 23, it does make you realise how hard the 'mere' club team event turned out.

Ross only lost 17 in the Vic Britain!!
