Yamaha Ty80 Rear Brake Arm Position

I am restoring a 1974 TY80 for my son. It's pretty much together, just a few small details here and there. I have referred on occasion to photos posted online and noticed something peculiar. On some bikes, I see the rear brake arm (on hub) pointing up so the brake rod would go over the top of the rear axle. On others, I see the arm facing downward so the brake rod would be positioned under the rear axle. Does anyone know which way is correct? Any thoughts or opinions on this?

Thanks, Matthew
