August 13, 200422 yr OK, here we go first post. Tomorrow I'm picking up a Sherco 03-290 (first trials bike at the tender age of 44) which has had a new piston fitted as the top end was a bit noisy. So what 2T oil do I use to run it in? Full or semi synthetic or mineral? Peter
August 13, 200422 yr There is a wide range of opinions on this matter. I run Maxxima K2 at 72 to 1. This is a full synthetic oil. My advice would be any high quality, name brand recognisable, full synthetic motorcycle 2 stroke oil that you can consistently get and have availability too. Ask what your dealer reccomends, stocks and runs in his machine.
August 13, 200422 yr Probably up for discussion. I run fully synthetic from new - at 50:1, one year on no rattles, and it's probably one of the harder worked bikes, not because of the terrain, but because of the load My idea of running in is 3-4 hours really soft riding round, then at least one novice level trial conscious of not reving too much.
August 13, 200422 yr When I had my piston done I ran it at 30:1 for the first few hours keeping below half throttle (this is what was recommended to me by the mechanic) and then after that ran it at 50:1 as recommended on the sherco website
