September 29, 200817 yr Dear all, can anyone give me a definitive answer as to what engine parts are the same, if any, between a TY175 (engine number is 525-2***** which is 1977 on) and a DT175 of approximately the same year? I need to strip my engine (it's burning the gearbox oil and so running like a dog) and I have been told by a couple of 'experts' that the 2 engines are identical but how can they be as they are intended for different uses? I accept some parts may be the same to keep production costs down but I don't want to buy any parts in the hope they may be the same. Also, who in England are the best people to deal with for TY parts? I don't necessarily mean the cheapest but the best quality parts and service? Thanks.
September 29, 200817 yr Hi,I think you will find you two experts are wrong. If you are burning gearbox oil then the oil seal on the crank shaft side has had it.Strip you engine down fit new mains bearings and oil seals and all should be ok. Have a look here for spares SPARES
September 30, 200817 yr very little in common. seals and bearings as noted above. can't recall if the seal can be replaced from the clutch side from the outside, or if it is pressed from inside the cas.... worth a look before splitting.
