December 2, 200817 yr Gavin has a 12.5 OSET. He loves riding it..but sometimes loses intrest in doing circles in the street.. It gets dark before he gets home from daycare, so I can't take him to the park. I have a 1000 watt light that lights up the front so he can ride.. To make it interesting, I have this little peice of wood that let him ride up and down the curb. I have also found that drawing a chalk "racecourse" on the street is fun.. So I was at HomeDepot today and I got this idea... $7.15 worth of lumber.. 2x4 cut in half.. Shave the ends.. 1x4 cut in 16" lengths.. A nail gun..and ta da!!! New ramp for the kids!! Works on curbs too :fact I'll post up how he does.
December 3, 200817 yr These sort of things really make a difference, I was into skateboarding and snakeboarding from a young age and I came home from school one day to find my dad had built a half pipe in our back garden, This kept me interested and practicing and I later went on to get sponsors in both sports. I was fed up with being told off for skating in the street and had it not been for that half pipe id have jacked it all in. keep up the enthusiasm and hopefully Gavin will do the same! A tip for ramps. If at a later date he wants something a bit bigger, maybe a curved ramp or a hump. Take a sheet or 2 of inch thick ply (can get away with 3/4) and cut out the sides of the ramp. then screw in peices of 2x1.5 inch wood between the 2 peices making a frame. make sure the wood fits flush up against the curve of whatever shape your making. then screw in (or nail if your feeling lazy) thin plywood (or MDF if its treated) to the top of the ramp. it will follow the contour of the ramp nicely. for a basic ramp though yours is awesome. looks really professional.
