What the professor failed to do as any good experiment would have is a control. He should have divided the class in two and carried out the exact same test but this time with one half subject to the carrot (exam pass) as well as the stick (as most communist countries have had, Stasi in east Germany kgb in russia etc).

In this case any dissenters or "slackers" would get free rendition flights to Guantamano and say a short break there over a weekend with all the usual facilities sleep deprivation, interrogation, torture and so on.

Sure enough the following week they would work so hard communism/socialism group two would score a rip roaring results, wouldn't they?
