Just rebuilt an engine - replaced most of the bearings (ie those that were in need of replacement! - including mains), cam chain, tensioner, rings etc etc. Bottom end of motor sounds mechanically rough when it is running. No obvious wear in big end.

I suspect wear in the primary drive gear/clutch drive/oilpump drive since this is the area the noise is coming from & it sounds more like gear noise than a bearing going.

Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms?

I heard from a local mechanic that XL125/185 etc can sound rough in this area.
