DALES CLASSIC TRIALS CLUB

Two-Day Trial at Carsons Farm, near Winster, Derbyshire

7th/8th August 2010

Saturday's easy format together with a 50/50 route was followed on Sunday with Round Six of the Club Championship. The unusually dry going at this compact rocky woodland course on the edge of the Peak District had the course plotters employing some tight turns and tricky cambers to extract marks from a healthy entry of 32 riders on Saturday and almost 60 on Sunday. As regulars know, the hillside at Carsons Farm is notoriously "slippery when wet" so to enjoy a weekend of light cloud and sunshine was more than welcome.

SATURDAY

Mick Grant was a welcome visitor to Saturday's event and he duly piloted his big Ariel around the Expert Route without loss, matched only by the well presented Matchless of Matt Mison, Rob Mycock's Bultaco and Pete Carson's Bantam. Werner Eckel produced an inspired ride plotting a course to lose only two marks on his 1938 Japette.

An innovative 50/50 route encouraged several regular Clubmen to step up to the challenge and Stephen Eyre took his SWM around clean with nearest rival,

Steve Turner on 5.

Colin Frey coaxed the leading links of his original 1958 DOT around the Clubman Route, also for the loss of five, to win from Colin Redfern's 1980 Fantic on seven. 22 years of development don't always count in the Classic world it seems..!

SUNDAY

.. and Round Six brought a stiffened up Championship course and a clean ride and an overall win for Paul Baddley (unit con BSA) followed by the rigid Bantam of land owner Pete Carson on one mark lost. A trio of riders lost two marks, Matt Mison, Dale Shaw and Rob Mycock who were closely followed by Shane Barnes on four.

Three clean sheets were recorded on the Clubman route with that of "veteran" Keith Chapman's being of note along with Peter Kirkman riding his 1957 Royal Enfield and usual suspect, Paul Beswick's Ossa.

Young Daniel Slack was a close second in the Twin Shock class, losing just one mark. His confident riding of his TY80 will soon be taking him to the top we suspect.

Leading the Pre 65 2-Strokes was Greeves rider Dave McGregor, together with Isle of Man visitor Paul Glendenning (1977 Suzuki) and Michael Kirkman (Unit Con 1964 BSA), also on one mark lost

Scanning the results show an even spread of marks lost around the course with no one section being particularly tough so well done to the course plotters

Coming up is a Pre 1960 trial on August 15th. This is a joint venture with High Peak VMCC to be held at Pott Shrigley. For more Info and to keep up to date with photo's and news look in at the clubs web site.. http://dalesclassic.wordpress.com/
