Featured Replies

hi everyone i have sherco 290 2000 and process of rebuild and think may have gearbox in wrong . the cases are back together so i want help first before i take it apart . it doesnt go into gear properly its like its stuck in between 2 gears that round spindle selector with the pins on the righthandside only turns a bit and gets stopped or stuck its like stuck on top off a tooth can anyone help please cheeers.

Did you take it apart for a gearbox problem?

Best of balance.

One may have to rotate the input or output shafts a bit in order for things to line up and move properly when shifting(rotating the drum to make things slide)

So that's the clutch cover off for finger (and thumbs) simultaneous rocking of the clutch unit and the drive sprocket.:banana2: ... is that right Cope?

Hope that works for you Matt.

Yes, I doubt he has the clutch back on it from what he said. The actual engagement happens sliding the cogs sideways and may be interrupted depending upon their position. As things rotate a bit, then they can slide to lock in.

I just hope he has not gotton things totally out of position here!

Couple questions,

Any idea when this issue began, or did you buy it that way?

Does the shift lever return spring feel normal? Dose the 1-2 shift feel normal?

Things like this usually occur after a hard hit to the shift lever, and if other things feel normal, may have bent an internal shift fork and require a teardown of the motor for inspection.

Cope, I had one awhile back break off one of those pins on the end of the drum.

Yea, good point! I have never seen one break, yet the good thing about that would be the fact is should be evident with clutch removal and would not click up to the next pawl, if it is not there!
