My friend and I are both proficient solo riders but have always fancied a go on a sidecar. We recently purchased a 280 climber with Rushton chair to have a go. We both loved it and have begun to attempt some harder sections however, we are having problems going up small steps/logs. When we 'launch' the third wheel hits the step and throws the rig to the left.

What should the passenger/rider be doing as we hit the step? I assume the passenger throws there wait behind the rider?

The chair has a falcon 10" shock that is virtually rigid. I plan to send this off the falcon shortly to be serviced and maybe have a softer spring, but have been told the spring should be heavy. The passenger is 14 stone and I'm 12 stone, obviously the climber is a heavy bike but I can't help but think if the shock was lighter it would assist.

Finally, I own a little bit of land with some average sections. If any body fancies a days practice in return for a lesson or two that would be great.

Hi Tim, we are no experts by any means but watching the guys at the South Eastern Centre trail on Sunday (we quit becasue we were just not good enough to get round), you need to lift the chair wheel off the ground and go over your obstacle as a solo. That will take some practice!

what other tips can you experts provide? I live on the other side of the Pond and have no one around here that does sidecar trials so we have to learn the hard way.

I have recently taken up the art of sidecar trials too with my mate. We are both handy enough clubman solo riders and are gonna have a good laugh doing it. its great fun, we've only ridden a chariot together twice and have picked it up pretty quick. its all about the timing between the both of you, as you are both solo riders you know what to do and when to do it.

It's got a lot to do with the angle at which you approach things as well. You have to point the thing more to the right so when the chair wheel hits or digs in it should pull you straight again rather than too far to the left and off line. I'm no expert but practice makes perfect.

Geetinga all. Just brought home a '82 Motesa Cota 349 with hack. My partner and I are experienced with MX hacks and road racing (vintage F2) hacks. We decided to entertain our mates with a trials rig.

Neither of us have ANY trials experience. What do you recommend? We learned MX hacks one wreck at a time - would prefer to avoid learning trials the same way

I'm up in NH with an Armstrong outfit. You don't see hacks at the events any more but I know there's several laying fallow around here. We're going to try and stir up interest again this year.
