Sherco Warranty?

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

I'm just wondering what warranty i'm likely to have on my sherco, if any?

i bought a new 2011 in Oct 2011,(its a 250) and i have a problem with the kick start not returning.

the kick start shaft, when pushed down, moves away from the crank case and if not done quickly, gets stuck and wont return form about 3/4 of the way back up.

any help on the warranty would be of help, or if ive got no warranty does anyone have any ideas?

if i have to do it myself will i need any specialist tools? i'm pretty sure the nut inside the clutch basket will be on tight!

thanks in advance.

Si

Ring the dealer you bought it from and ask, if he is not helpful ring Malcolm Rathmell at http://www.malcolmrathmellsport.com/

If they don't help then contact trading standards at your local council.

Goods must be of merchantable quality and fit for the purpose for which they are sold )1974 sale of goods act) Any reasonable person would expect a kicksart to work propelr for several years at least so long as you have not done anything unusual to damage it.

Cheers

This sounds normal to me. If you give full stroke and release it the momentum will return it. It may polish up a bit with use, but it requires the momentum from downward release!

clearly the dealer is the first port of call.

I think that in all likely hood I'd expect to pay for a repair if something was broken..

However the argument of merchantable quality is another issue. an item for competition might reasonably expected to require frequent and detailed maintainace and as such may be difficult for your trading standards to pursue..more so as you admit to having little mechanical experience.

Thanks guys.

Ive not spoken to my dealer as it was sunday at the time of writing.

its worth a try, but i thought, with it being a competition bike warranty would have been a minimum.

my thinking is that something has come off or broken inside the case that stops the kick start shaft floating about. maybe there is a washer, shim or similar.

I'll see if i can down load a pdf from somewhere, and ill speak to the dealer later.

Regards Si

Have a look on the splatshop site, there will be a good exploded view of the kickstart assembly there.

Definately should not slide outwards when in use, should be a circlip & washer outside of the gear which stops the shaft moving sideways

http://www.splatshop.co.uk/Parts-Finder/Sherco/2009/290/Kickstart/

Don't worry about the link being for 2009 as they're all likely to be pretty similar

Kickstart shaft may move in and out couple mm as well with engagement of the cam gear. I am sure one or these legal experts can correct me, what do I know, as I have only owned a handfull of them over the last decade or so. Perhaps they can name and shame me if I am incorrect!!!

Does it work if you let it fly back into position? You cannot give it a half prod by hand and expect it to return properly!

I would expect them to

All the bikes I have do....but then again they were built by Honda :-0

Unfortunatly, that option adds about 10 kilos and it seems Sherco is not interisted.

I took the bike back to the dealers and they were fantastic about it!

im very impressed with the way things have gone, and i definitely will have no hesitations in buying another next time from the same place.

Although i must say, i wasn't suggesting my dealer wouldn't support me, it was just that it was Sunday at the time of writing and i hoped to find out what i could expect.

the problem lay with a small washer, replaced, and all sorted now

thanks for you input guys.
