270 Conversion On The Tyz Lump.

Featured Replies

Hi. Just wondering if anyone has done the 270 conversion to the engine that is in the TYZ and the SY Scorpa. I take it the barrel will need boring and replating. Is there any noticeable difference and do you need to fiddle about with the carb much?

Just wondering as to buy the 270 piston is probably as much as buying first size up from standard piston.

Cheers.

Don't follow your logic with the cost of the piston as using a bigger one involving replating will be the best part of an additional £170 ?

There is only one person to take any advice from on this and that is Nigel Birkett.

My thinking is that if I take out the barrel to 1st over size them I'm presuming I'm going to have to have it replated anyway. So why not go up to 270.

Sure I read on here somewhere that you get ABC etc pistons, and you can sometimes get away with the next size up without rebore.

Think that's the Mont 315 that have those pistons. Apparently there its no over bore size pistons as the barrel is chromed. So maybe I might be able to put some rings in if the pistons not too worn.
