I have seen a few pre 65 bikes with grey dense foam seats which appear to have been carved to shape does anyone know what this material is and where you can get it

Barnettbob ,you could try ebay-type in race seat foam under motorcycle parts.

It comes in different thicknesses and sizes and is self adhesive.

I use the rubber floor mats. They come in 3'x3' sheets at the home improvement stores.
